re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

I didn't say that I was Republican. I don't agree with every part of their platform (including their stand on gay marriage). The point of my post was to say that many on here have a very narrow-minded view of Republicans that I don't agree with.

I also stated in my original post that I knew that I wouldn't change anyone's opinions on this subject. Just putting in my 2 cents worth.

That's fair, but you have to keep in mind that the younger generation of voters don't remember a Republican party that resembles the one that stood for fiscal responsibility and smaller Government. We remember the Republican party that's inexplicably in the pocket of Fundamentalist Christian interests, and one that unequivocally interprets "fiscal responsibility" as "fiscal self interest".

And those of us who aren't younger have to contend with the social attacks on a personal level, and can't afford to grace the party with any sort of respect in the midst of a fight for civil rights.

I do try and be mature about it, but my visceral gut reaction is often one of "evil! bad! wrong!".

Liverpool, I've been on this earth for almost 1/2 century. That's a lot of life experience, so I don't think I live in a "fantasy world." I just have a different point of reference from you.

Craww, I completely respect your point of view, I just don't agree with it. However, you do have me pegged. I am not in the "younger generation of voters", lol.

I gotta go to bed now.

re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

Imagine waking up one morning and discovering that what you've been told all your life that was evil is what you have become. Kinda messed up.

Isn't that the story for each and every one of us? I don't think too many of us have to imagine it. We've lived it.

We call the Log Cabin Republicans, "Jews for Jesus".

Democrat or Republican -- Jews, as a tribe -- are anti-gay. We are taught the same hateful ideologies that the Christians are. The only reason the Christians get all of the press about being the center of religious gay discrimination is because 99% of the elected officials are Christian, and the majority of Americans are Gentiles.

Jews for Jesus has become irrelevant. All American Jews who, at the very least, attend Hebrew School, are raised to believe that in order to be a complete, worthwhile human being, you have to marry someone of the opposite sex and have children.

First, a Jew for Jesus is a shanda...

"National security should always be the primary concern, especially post-9/11 (a date that too many people have forgotten). "

You must be out of your mind, luv, or simply buying into what the GOP wants you to think of the Dems...I live in NYC and believe me, every single time I get on the subway or have my bag checked in the Citigroup Building or even standing next to a trash can on the sidewalk, 9/11 comes racing back to me.

It's just that the GOP and the Dems have different solutions to preventing future attacks--it's an absolute insult to say that ANYONE has forgotten 9/11--unless of course, you've performed a battery of psychiatric tests on all of us.

re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

Can anyone tell me what exactly the Log Cabin Republicans have done for gay people? I mean, how have they "made a difference?" How have they helped? I've been to their website and I can't find one thing. Wouldn't you think they would highlight and point out all their accomplishments? Can't find anything. Other than them ranting about how they are working within the party and educating others about gays, I see nothing. I think the Log Cabin Republicans are just a little club with members. Kind of like the 'He man Women hater's Club' on the Little Rascals.

Was also curious if anyone can list what Republican has passed a law or even proposed a law that benefits gay people. Its very easy for those to say I'm stereotyping the party but I found a site that has pages amongst pages of actual homophobic quotes by Republican law makers and politicians so this sorry excuse that all Republicans aren't like that is a crock of $hit! You'll have to do better.

Lildog, I wasn't talking about you personally, or anyone else on this board for that matter. If just one person has ever forgotten 9/11, that's too many.

re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

"clearly you do live in some sort of fantasy world where republicans aren't in fact evil, opressive, war-mongering ass clowns."

I was raised by 2 Republicans, my amazing parents. They are not evil, opressive, or war-mongering ass clowns. They are quiet, unassuming, and loving people who have NEVER said that they hated anyone. My father served his country in the army, with no complaints from him. Neither of them had a college education, but both of them learned a trade, worked hard, and saved up for a nice little retirement. They've had hardship, but not once have they asked the government for a single handout or assistance. They love their God, their family, and their country. I think it's pathetic that you and other liberal extremists want to label people like my parents as "evil" or "war-mongering." It's people like this who are the backbone of our great country! Even though we may not always agree on all issues, I love my parents and thank God for the way they raised my brother and me.

You mean like George Bush, who forgot to go after Bin Ladin?

And Wanna Be, you don't take into account the strides made by the Reform and Conservative wings of American Judaism, not to mention pioneering gay and lesbian rabbis like Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum of NYC's Congregation Beth Simchat Torah.

Wait, demanding equal rights is the same as asking for a handout??????? Who the **** cares if your parents love their god and have never asked the government for a handout. EQUAL RIGHTS IS NOT A HAND OUT IT IS THE RESPONISIBLITY OF THE GOVERNMENT AND EVERY CITIZEN OF THE COUNTRY. you are what is wrong with this country luv, you and god loving republican voting, gay hating parents.

re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

The Republican Party has been hijacked in recent years (thank-you W and friends). It no longer resembles the Republican Party of your parents or mine Luv. Even the party itself has realized this and I am sure we will see it being wrestled out of the hands of the Right Wing Religious Zealots in the near future.
I want to say though, even Democrats has fallen short on their promises to the Gay Community. I don't see much happening during this election campaign to change that. The "Gay Issue" pretty much was the downfall of the Dems in the last Presidental election.

Liverpool, your posts are now making me think that some Democrats aren't too smart. Go back to my last post. The only reason I posted that is to make the point that not all Republicans are war-mongering evil people, like you say. That is all.

It's no wonder that so many conservatives and others would be opposed to your "gay issue", if you always come at them with that kind of rant. Maybe you ought to try a new approach with them, like being an adult and showing those that fought for this country a little respect. I can guarantee you that if you talked to my parents the way that you post here, they would immediately turn you off and hear nothing else that you have to say. With an attitude like yours, why should they take anything you say seriously?

re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

luvcaroline , Republicans years ago are not Republicans of today. Your parents sound more like Independents than Republicans. My parents were both Republicans til 2000. They are now Independents and in 2004 voted Democrat for the first time ever. They also plan on voting Democrat this year. They sound like your parents. Republicans 30 years ago would not recognize the party today.

re: I Will Never Understand Gay Republicans!

I kinda knew you weren't talking about ME, luvcaroline, but the "forgetting 9/11" has been used against us before, usually by people who live in places that are in NO danger of being attacked, which is MOST of the US. Now of course after I say that, the next target will be some small town in the middle of nowhere.

Nobody has forgotten about 9/11--just like nobody has forgotten Pearl Harbor. NYers (and most likely DCers) have to live with terrorism as a matter of day-to-day life. We are CONSTANTLY aware of the threat--we have to live with it in a different way is all.
