#150The economic "recovery"
Posted: 1/4/04 at 5:13pm

Since Bush has been in office America has lost the most jobs since the depression. Most of these have been manufacturing jobs. There's an article in The New York Times that talks about the current jobless recovery. Many manufacturing jobs are being replaced by service jobs that pay less and offer fewer benefits. While the manufacturing jobs get shipped off to other countries for cheap. So much for a recovery.
A joyless recovery

Here's an article that talks about how the Bush administration is handling protestors. Apparently George W. doesn't like them too much. When the prez is scheduled to make an appearance free speech zones are set up so protestors can voice their opinions. Unfortunately these zones are set up away from where the prez is going to be and out of sight of the media. However, Bush supporters are permitted to carry their signs in full view of the media.
The article also goes on to talk about The Patriot Act and the current trend of classifying protestors as terrorists. It's good to know that George W. is in office fighting for all of our freedom.

A report by the Army War College is critical of the way the Bush Administration is handling the war on terror.

"[T]he global war on terrorism as currently defined and waged is dangerously indiscriminate and ambitious, and accordingly . . . its parameters should be readjusted," Record writes. Currently, he adds, the anti-terrorism campaign "is strategically unfocused, promises more than it can deliver, and threatens to dissipate U.S. military resources in an endless and hopeless search for absolute security."

It's an interesting article that can be found on the Washington's Post website.

technically, it's a report by a visiting research professor to the strategic studies institute clearly containing the proviso that "[t]he views expressed in this report are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the [d]epartment of the [a]rmy, the [d]epartment of [d]efense, or the [u].[s]. [g]overnment." to say that the war college itself is critical of the bush administration's handling of the war on terror is a bit of a reach. this is an example of the military having sense enough to commission studies that look at all of the sides of an issue.

but to attribute the work of a visiting professor to be the attitude of the college is kinda like taking a guest contributor from the ny times's opinion and touting it as the paper's opinion. if you took roberto pazzi's piece from january 11th for example, you'd get this headline, "new york times calls for next pope to be italian." well, if they didn't agree with that opinion, then why would they publish it, right? c'mon...
