I got my report card today. The average of all my grades is a 93.6875.
I may kill someone.
Why couldn't I have gotten a few points higher in art or music conservatory?
Stupid teachers.
I graduated with a 4.2, so there! :P
Me too, I'm smarter than anyone.

MFL, you're not looking for sympathy with grades like that, are you?
Stupid teachers.
Uhm. I think I know exactly what your answer to this is going to be, but honestly. How is it THEIR fault? To think they just shell out the grades is honestly kind of immature. It's your fault more than it's theirs, unless you have some bitch of an unfair teacher. Yes, there are teachers who are unfair, and teachers who throw you a bone to help you out, but for the most part, check out the cliche -- they dont' give you the grades. You earn 'em.
Besides the fact that those kinds of grades don't deserve an ounce of sympathy.
There is NOTHING wrong with having a 3.9! :P Congratulations on that.
I'm sort of annoyed with myself because my grades in college have been the opposite of most people's (who don't do as well freshman and sophomore years but improve later on). I did unsurpassably well my freshman year, so it's all been downhill from there. Very rapidly downhill.

Allie, I was thinking the same thing. I'll post my GPA- THEN we can start the pity party.
I should probably mention that I didn't have to take math in my last semester, but whatever.
I go to work every day and pay my own bills.
Damn not-wealthy parents.
Ok, I'm not expecting sympathy. Just ranting because I really wanted a 4.0. I know, it's not my teachers' fault, it's my fault. But I at least know I made honor roll, and hopefully, I'll do better next term!
Stupid teachers? How did you get such good grades if you didn't learn anything?
We're just messing with you MLF, all you can do is try to do better next term, but 3.9 ain't bad.
It's not a 4.2, but still ...

I'm just going to accept that MFL is very young and has much yet to learn - otherwise, I may burst a blood vessel.
You're ranting over .1? I'd love to see hwat you'd have to say if you had gotten MY report card from my freshman year.
I know it's not that bad to have a 3.9 GPA, but I want to get into some REALLY competitive colleges and I think I'll need a 4.0 GPA to do that, even with my extracurriculars and community service.
Okay, that sounded fairly awful. It's just that my life is about college and succeeding in life. I don't want to be one of the dime-a-dozen kids in my school who goes to Queens.

I'll assume this is an unweighted GPA of 3.9, right? Do you take the most challenging curriculum available? If so, this GPA will not keep you out of ANY college. You do not have to have a 4.0 to get into the most elite colleges. You have to be strong in every aspect of the admissions process. It is not as simple as 4.0=admit and 3.9=deny. A 3.9 OR a 4.0 (talking unweighted GPA) both would be within range at the most elite schools in the land. If you have a 3.9 and everything else you have is very strong, you are a viable candidate at the most selective colleges. The 3.9 won't keep you out. However, you can have EVERYTHING be TOPS and still not get in at the most elite schools.
I think you should do your very best and it sounds like you do but perfection is not what is needed. A 3.9 is fine. Make sure everything is strong, not just your grades. But your grades are A OK.
3.9 unweighted. My school has a community service requirement, so I get that done (and I have a program I think I'll stick with for all my years of high school), and I do a lot of extra-curriculars (model congress, choir, chamber choir, out-of-school shows, in-school stage crew, science research to name a few). Most of my teachers like me, so I'm pretty sure I'l lget good reccommendations.
So I guess if I can keep all this up, I guess I will get into a good school.
Thanks! I'm a major perfectionist, but I'm honestly feeling better!

Honestly, the people who worry about 3.9 GPA's are the ones who don't get into top schools, it shows on your application...
3.9 unweighted is NOTHING to worry about. And the truth is that college admissions are not as formulaic as you probably think. You don't NEED a 4.0 to get in. You can get in with a 3.9. Or less, I'm sure. Yes, even to really competitive ones.
Grades
Extracurriculars
SATs and other standardized exams
Interview
Essay
Courseload -- how challenging it is
Recommendation letters
The list goes on and on. You really don't need to worry that much.
Ok...so I should be fine. I'm just have a tendency to overprepare...a lot.

you're ranting over a 3.9?! That's a little compulsive...
So I've been told, but I've been thinking for awhile that I may be depressed. Is that a symptom of any form of depression?

hmmm..
I graduated high school with a 3.4 GPA and I got into my first choice college. My test scores were good and I had tons of extra curriculars. Seriously. Calm down.
