You have to watch it at least twice.
Every time I see it I catch something new.
You'll see what I mean.
Just fantastic.

What is Robinson's that they have to water it down?
A concentrate.

I think it's a great commercial until the very end.
When they put up the tagline that ruins it for me. It takes a beautiful scenario and makes it preachy.
Other than that, it's awesome.

Taz, thanks so much for posting the link. Very sweet and clever! You're right about watching it more than once.

Maybe Goth could edit his message, since it kind of spoils the commercial.

I edited it. I work under the assumption that before anyone reads down into a post, they've clicked on the link under discussion.

Fair enough. It was nice of you to edit, anyway, though.
The commercial is adorable and I love it, but the tag line messed it up for me, too. I wouldn't say it's better to be a friend. It's nice to be both, but kids need a parent much more than a friend. (Granted, this could be be because I am a new parent and am especially sensitive to things like this. My role in my daughter's life has already been questioned more than once, since I am not her "real" mom, apparently.)

JerseyGirl, I hope you tell whoever questions your motherhood to kiss your butt!
About the ad...I think the way it is done pretty much shows that the tag line is not to be taken too literally. I don't think it's saying the latter vs the former but rather that the two together is ideal at that stage. In reality I think the percentages of these two sides of the relationship naturally change over time.
It's a wonderful ad, and I don't want to analyze it too much.
Love the classic (and quite apt) movie line. :)

I know exactly what you mean though, jg2. I think too many parents try to be friends rather than "parent" but I think at the age of the kid in this commercial it's ok to be their friend too. And I agree with jbara...........anyone who questions your role in your daughter's life can kiss your butt.

Good parents know when to be a friend, but not all friends know when to be a parent.
That commercial had me right up until its tagline. It's a great example for "less is more".
