All this talk about socialized medicine from the right made me realize: There is socialism all around us! And it's got to stop!
Michael Moore wants some sort of socialized medical care where we ALL pay a portion of our income so that everyone gets decent medical care. Pah. That's ridiculous!
Right now, we all pay taxes so that IF there is a fire, there will be firfighters who rush over to put the fire out! That's ridiculous! I've never even HAD a fire! Why should I keep shelling out big bucks? I like the "Medical" model better. IF, god forbid, my house catches fire, I call the fire department and they put out the fire, then present me with a Bill. My fire insurance covers most of it and I spend the rest of my life paying off the deductible and the uncovered portion. And if a poor person's house burns down? Well, poor people don't ususally own nice houses, so it won't really be a problem. I am sure that religious groups will collect moeny for them or something, so, as Barbara Bush put it, this could work out very well for them!
I think this will save me a LOT of tax money! Once we get "Fire reform" then we can move on to "police reform" and maybe even water/sewer reform. ANYTHING to put a stop to this SOCIALISM!!!
Who's with me!?

Wow! You really got me thinking. You know what else is socialism? COPS! It pains me to say it, but the cop who swings by my place twice a month after work is the benefactor of what is, essentially, a socialist system. He should be going to a second paying job like so many others, instead of living high on the hog and coming to my place for a very different kind of job. We as a country don't NEED that socialism in our midst.
Privatize cops. Nobody would even notice the difference. The cops will respond seriously to crimes committed against people who have the money to hire them. They can just continue to ignore 911 calls that come from poor neighborhoods. Oh, and 911 calls? They'll now be $1.95 a minute, 2.95 the first.
I think Mr Roxy'll totally be on board with us. That is, if he hasn't been arrested by the PC police!

And all those servicemen still in the armed forces or at the VA - you guys are paying for them, too! The second amendment allows the bearing of arms for militias - why pay for a standing army? It's socialist to have permanent armed forces!

OMG, it's everywhere you look! Have they ever had a hearing to uncover these socialists?

Our firefighters here are all volunteer, and are supported by membership dues (they ask $35 or more if you can afford it) & fundraising with a small stipend from the community. Sure enough, if you need them and you aren't a member, you do pay for services rendered. Same with ambulance service.

While we're at it, let's get rid of that pesky public school system. Why should I be paying to educate the trailer trash on the other side of town who will no doubt amount to nothing more than another hick breeding machine anyway?

and public parks and beaches! If you can't afford the property why should you have access? Think of all the profit in developing Central Park and the Mall in D.C.! Why I bet I could retire just on the profit from all the marble, granite, lime- and sandstone wasted on the Mall!
What if all these things worked like public radio. What if before the fireman puts out the fire, he plays or acts out a commercial? Same thing if you're being robbed - before the police apprehend the criminal - they say a word from their sponsor.
Revolutionary!

Good points!
Colleen, forget "the other side of the town," how about all of the trailer trash in Greene County, Ohio? And you know what, let's send all current and former TEACHERS UNION PRESIDENTS in the state of Ohio right to jail, for socialist impulses.

i'm sick of paying for roads.
I DONT EVEN HAVE A CAR!!!!!

road funds largely come from gasoline taxes - you aren't buying gasoline for some other purpose, are you?

Maybe to burn a hammer and sickle on the lawn of a ONE-TIME TEACHERS UNION PRESIDENT, you radical?

we saw a house that hadnt paid their fire protection dues burn to the gtound in our subdivision. The firemen came and hosed down the houses next to it, cuz they had paid, to keep them from catching fire. The people were on vacation. Firemen let it burn straight to the foundation.
Its a memory that has stuck w/ me. I never let my Firemens dues expire.

hmm...and what about the FAA? Should the cost of that be exclusively covered by fees on airline tickets?

Now here's one that's REALLY unecessary - The Water and Sewer Department! Who needs that? Why, in the good old days basin water helped keep down the dust from the street, too!

Details of the contract were guarded Monday, but Superintendent Jeff Lewis said a controversial insurance proposal was off of the table. "It's not a part of the agreement," he said.
The insurance proposal would have require teachers' spouses to subscribe to their employers' insurance plan, not the Xenia plan.
Had there been no SOCIALISTIC UNION getting all in the business of health care options, the spouses could've (should've!) been completely on their own with their health care. Talk about union shirkers double-dipping.
Yawper - I see the makings of a musical.. we could call it

water and sewer is such a racket. If you are gonna use the water on your lawn or fill your pool, you have to tell the sewer company ahead of time or they are gonna charge you full water usage charge, and they make it such a hassle most people just go ahead and pay it.
They decided to run a sewer thru my mom's property (against her wishes and not a damn thing she could do to stop it) and they were all "hey we'll hook you up for FREE!!" whoo hoo!! so now she has a monthly sewer bill and a sewer pipe thru our lower pasture we never wanted.

what size pool? my sister has a well (and septic), so instead of burning up her well pump running it for hours she has a tanker truck fill her pool (~6,000 gallons, I think). The tanker truck guy hauls milk in the a.m., washes out the truck, and hauls potable water in the afternoon.

i'm sorry, but that's disgusting.
