I just rewatched a cartoon called THE DUCKSTERS and, holy crap! I forgot that Daffy Duck actually shoots a guy dead with a shotgun in it.
Not saying this is bad. I just don't remember them being such p***s to each other.

Looney Tunes were the BEST! Good times.
Loved Looney Tunes. Thank goodness we weren't so politically correct back then! And the violence didn't affect us like they say it will kids now. We got it, so to speak.
I agree. My brother and I grew up watching Looney Tunes, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckel, Tom and Jerry, and Woody Woodpecker. It's funny that someone started this thread because I just had a conversation about cartoons with a friend tonight. My niece watches NOGGIN all the time, and I can't get over how sweet the cartoons are nowadays. Every character is nice, they are all "best friends," and there is always a lesson to be learned by the end of the show. Huge difference from the 70's and 80's cartoons....but we turned out fine!!!

"I never realized how horrifically violent LOONEY TUNES were..."
And you're the FILM STUDENT?!?
Please.
I do find it funny that the acts of violence were what got big laughs back in the day. Yet, if anyone laughed at them today, they would get yelled at for not being PC.

Cruel's Next Posting---
I NEVER REALIZED HOW OFTEN BUGS BUNNY GOES IN DRAG. IS HE GAY OR WHAT?
I mean, like, what's up with that?
Yes, the homosexual agenda in its infancy, promoting its filthy decadence via Looney Tunes.

"Oh, Bwunhilda, you'we so wovewy."
"Yes, I know it. I can't help it."
And let's not forget the same sex wedding sequence at the end of RABBIT OF SEVILLE. With Elmer in drag, this time.
The semiotic psychosexual possibilities are endless....
Please. Looney Tunes had murder, rape, homos, assault & battery, stalking, racism and sexism. They made fun of handicaps, war, old people, young people, starvation, farmers, hillbillies, fat people, skinny people and technology.
What's not to love?!

The upcoming LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION DVD will include Chuck Jones' astonishing FRESH AIREDALE, one of the grimmest and funniest cartoons ever made. Good old Shep!

I remember one Looney Tunes show that had Bugs Bunny happily playing with guns and bombs during World War 2, no joke.
The Looney Tunes Golden Colelctions are the BEST! The last one (volume 6) is due out this fall---I think a cartoon marathon is in order.
Then I will go on a shooting spree....hunting wabbits!
When my husband complains about the "violence" my son is watching on Spongebob, I remind him of the Roadrunner cartoons that we used to watch.
My niece watches "Spongebob" also...that show is nothing in comparison to Looney Tunes!!!
Looney Tunes weren't originally intended for children. They were shown in theaters before movies. It was years later that they were included in with Saturday morning cartoons.
