I really want an Ipod...anyone wanna get it for me for Christmas???
I also heard the battery lasts for 2 years..then you have to replace it which is expensive. Is that true?

i've heard this for all lithium batteries (not just ipods), also cell phones, etc. i haven't had either for 2+ years, so i'll tell you when i get to that point.

I got mine for free with last year's Canadian Mac university package.
Boo-yeah!
Love it. Makes the Toronto to Kingston drive/ train ride more bearable.

GET.IT.
I just got mine (20 g) for my birthday last month, and I've also been quite attached to it. I have over half my CDs uploaded and still have a TON of room.

Oh yeah -- I got my entire cd collection on there, plus a whole crapload of music I downloaded and I STILL have sooooooooo much room.

Let's face it, Apple just makes good products. So the question isn't whether to get an iPod, but whether to get the iPod Mini, the 20gig, or the 40gig.
What's everyone's opinion on this? I'm planning to get the 40gig; it's thicker and heavier, but I won't ever have to worry about running out of space.

you DEFINITELY won't run out of space, unless your planning on putting long operas on it or something. i have an old 15gb, and i've used about 3gb. i already have over 24 hours of music on it.
I would opt for the 40 gb player myself as I already have about 20 gigs of music on my computer. My laptop is where all of my family's cds get copied to so we can burn a new copy if the original gets lost or damaged.

if you have the extra $100 I think it is, go for it, better too much memory than too little.
I have one, and I love it. Like everyone else said....GET IT!
Honestly, if you travel, walk alot in the city, anything like that, you'll never know how you survived without it before.

I have the mini (pink ), which I absolutely adore. However, if I had a choice in the matter (it was a gift that I asked for without researching the specs), I would have bought the 20 or 40gig. I believe those have a longer battery life. Other than that, the 4 gig mini holds more than enough songs for my purposes.
I've had mine for over 6 months now, and I don't know if I could survive without it. The best thing for me is going from one cast album to the next without having to change cds.
I recharge mine every day. I have the dock hooked up to my stereo and just pop it in when I get home.
If you have, I would say around 40+ cds and like to listen to music, it's a must.
I. WANT. AN .IPOD!
there so expencive i hope the lower the price!
I just won a 4Gb Ipod Mini yesterday in the raffle at our company Christmas luncheon. So far, it is pretty cool, but I cant figure out how to only load specific songs rather than everything in the music library. The directions say you can do it, but they don't tell you how.

Are you using iTunes to manage your music? If yes, then you can load specific songs. Right click on the iPod icon in iTunes in the left column and select iPod options. A menu will come up- make sure you are on the iPod Music folder of this menu and select manually manage iPod songs and playlists (the third option). This should allow you to drag and drop songs onto the iPod icon on the left column without synching the entire playlist. If you want to remove songs, double click on the same iPod icon and just manually clear the songs.
I hope this helps!
I have an AieaPod and I love it.
My 3600 songs take up about 12.5 gigs
{NOTE: My tech-obsessed brother found another of those crazy online scheme things and is convinced that he should be getting one of those new color-iPods in the mail within the next couple of weeks. Normally I would doubt such a thing, but when I came home from college, I saw that half of our ping-pong table is filled with boxes of things he's gotten free from the internet... (a coffee machine, another TV, 2 mini-iPods and a normal one, etc.) so now I'm a believer.}

sorry, insomniak, havent been online yet. I don't know how it is yet, I havent gotten the Dell DJ. The website says it'll ship on January 7th, but I'd bet it'll be here for Christmas. I'll be sure to let everyone know if its worth the price (less than an iPod, btw)
I've just caught on to this iPod craze. I know what it looks like, I know what it does, but I don't know how it works. So do you download songs from CDs onto this thing? Or download songs off the internet? How does it get onto the iPod?

You can put any kind of digital music, whether it originated from a CD or an online download, onto an iPod. You can even use it as a pure data drive, though I wouldn't recommend it.
So is there a doohickey that attached the iPod to the computer? What programs do I need to load the music onto the iPod?

Your iPod will come with the connection cable and iTunes, which is what holds your music collection for the iPod on your computer.

Yup. You can get iTunes even if you don't have an iPod, I think. It's just a nice program for playing and organizing music.
ETA- To get more specific, you're going to need a Firewire port or at least a USB 2.0(?) port to transfer music from your computer to the iPod. I'd really recommend going with Firewire, especially because I've heard of all kinds of issues with the USB option.
