About how many songs will a mini-IPod hold? I'm thinking of getting one. I'm glad you like it, Liotte!
I just got my iPOD mini about two weeks ago. I love it and have become addicted to using it. At work, at the gym and even in my apartment. The only thing I didn't like were the headphones (earbuds). They kept falling out when I was working out at the gym so I'm just using a regular SONY headphone from an old CD player.
Get one! You too can become addicted. Pick a color and get it engraved :)
Elphie, I think the minis hold about 1000 songs.

The headphones, for all that people like to use them as a status symbol, are actually realy crappy. They never fit in my ears and in certain instances they distort sound.

i HATE the ipod headphones. if i MOVE they fall out. i also use some old sonys from a CD player... those ones that go over your ears.
The ipod headphones are horreendous. I also use sony headphones with my ipod. Much better.

I use my sony headphones with my iPod too... I hate the earbuds -- they hurt like a mofo!

Earbuds are uncomfortable and rude, because they tend to leak sound more than over-the-ear-phones. I'll take my cheap Sony pair any day.
the BEST thing I have ever purchased! It is my companion everywhere :)

I'm tempted to ask you for your remote control, but instead I'll say: I'm pretty sure it won't be hard to return as long as you have everything to give back. If you're getting it as a present and don't open the packaging it shouldn't be a problem at all.
I'll also say this- I wasn't big on listening to music on headphones, either. But when you have your entire music collection with you, you find times when it's useful. :)
You have no idea how many people would bitch slap you for that ipod.
My brother sold an iPod mini yesterday on eBay for $20 more than it's worth. You could always try that route.
I LOVE my iPod. And you don't have to just use it with headphones shamrockboy. I use the dock to plug mine into my computer at work and into my sound system at home and play all my music from my iPod. It's like having your own customized jukebox that can hold 10,000 songs. I also use it in the car. So don't return it just because you don't think you'll use the headphones....
I do have some negative things to say about it though. I've had some tech problems. After having it for two months it just completely died on me. I took it to the apple store and they were able to get it working again but they had to clear the hard drive of all my songs...that was over a month ago and I'm still reloading it. I've known the same thing to happen to a couple of friends of mine..one had to get a replacement iPod. Because of this...I bought the extended warrenty from apple to protect my investment. I would highly recommend the extended warrenty for anyone who owns one...
Does anyone use theirs in their car? My friend bought the radio transmitter thing and said it kinds of sucks. That would be my main reason for buying it, since I HATE having CD's everywhere in my car and I also HATE the radio even more. hehe
I use it in my car but I don't use the radio transmitter thing. Apparently they only work if you live in the middle of nowhere. If you have a tape deck in your car you can buy one of the convertors they use for cd players. You just plug it into the headphone jack of your iPod and then stick the tape in the tape-deck. Cheap and it works great.
I've had my iPod for a few years and love it. I, too, didn't like the earphones that came with it, so I bought a different set.
My biggest problem was when I traveled and bought a new CD, I couldn't listen to it until I returned home. Now I travel with my iBook. Problem solved since I can download the CD onto my laptop and then update my iPod.
I bought the attachment to play my iPod in the car, but I haven't been totally satisfied with the reception I'm getting. Additionally, I find I can't change to different music while driving. I definitely have to stick with the CD I've chosen or wait until I get to a red light. I use it more often on long drives.
So true about buying a cd and waiting til you are back with your computer to load it.
I have a lovely 30 gig (the 40 gig came out a week later. )
As a commuter, I think the IPOD is a MUST. I listen to it on the train/subway/car.
I also save home movies that I make on my ipod. It's a useful back up hard drive.
I also got a the lovely viper (purple) ISkin and most people comment on it.
The On-the-go list is a fun feature too.
It is sooo very worth it!! I can't imagine being without mine now. It is very easy to operate and beats carrying one of those monstar CD cases around. If you travel, you save a ton of space.
And on a flight, I use the same earphones to listen to inflight music and/or watch the movie (or DirecTV on jetBlue). I realized I no longer have to deal with two sets of earphones!

Flowery Friend, your brother sounds like a kanoodling con-artist
Erik, someone told me that radio thing was really good (we live in middle of nowhere), but I would much prefer the tapedeck convertor...do you have to get a specific one for the iPod or can you use one for a portable CD player? I have several of those! (getting iPod for Christmas!)

If you buy a cheap radio transmitter, it'll work like a cheap radio transmitter. Which is to say, not very well. But I know people in the NYC area (and the airwaves don't get much more crowded than that) who use a good-quality transmitter and it works quite nicely, with only occassional static.
Rent...you do not need any special tapedeck convertor...anyone will do fine. I use the old one I had for my cd walkman. It works great. If you have a tapedeck in your car I think it's a better alternative than the radio transmitter.

it is beyond me why apple made a remote control for an ipod. the ipod itself is a remote control!
