I really don't like my family right now!

I hate living with a conservative family. They keep saying how evil and stupid liberals are (and I am more a liberal than a conservative) and how I need to get my priorities straight for voting for Kerry. After I told me dad I voted for Kerry, all hell broke loose. He asked my why and I said, "because Bush is a moron" and he said, "Well, you know Kerry wants to get people who are pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage." And I said, "Well, I support gay marriage" and people....you should have seen his face (he is a Baptist preacher). I thought he was going to throw something at me. He then gave me the speech about what the Bible says and I said, "In the Bible, it says 'sexually immoral' which means that if you believe that homosexuals are going to hell, then you think your daughter is going to hell (she is pregnant and not married)." And he started to say something and then walked off. Now my mom is bitching about how stupid liberals are and for this country's sake, Bush better win. I want to move away so bad. I can't stand living here anymore.

wow spider, I had no idea you were up against that sort of family "morality". i'm sorry to hear about your parents being so irrational about the whole thing. You might want to make yourself scarce when Kerry officially wins. I feel for you, I really do, and I give you great respect for being as independent minded as you are with influences like that. Man, people need to stop using Jesus to justify their prejudices.

I live in Texas. Everyone says that 'if you are a good Christian then you will vote for Bush'. I personally am not Christian but I know that the general mindset is that God loves you no matter how you act or who you are. I have yet to see any actual bible verse stating that gay people are going to hell, because everyone just hears about that verse and assumes it is true, and the actual context has probably been skewed by word of mouth. Anyways, that isn't even my point. I have homosexul friends and they are very good Christians. They go to church, Sunday school etc. And the reason that they go is that they feel that they can confide in God when the rest of humanity appears to be against their sexual preference. It just doesn't all fit together, and people here aren't even willing to even consider any other opinions. And about abortions, banning them will do more harm than good. It increases the chances of the babies being born and then killed in more painful manners, it is telling women what they can and cannot do with their own bodies, and there are already pleanty of children in shelters looking for homes. If the mother does not plan on caring for the child then I think they should have the right to an abortion. All this name calling is also driving me insane... Just because I stand up for homosexuals and women's rights does not make me a 'fag' or a 'baby killer'! Sheesh. I REALLY want Kerry to win, not only for the reasons above, but it will also be a personal victory against all these stubborn Texans...

Here in this cold white room tied up to these machines, it's hard to imagine life as it used to be. Laughing, screaming, tumbling queen... Like the most amazing light show you've ever seen. Whirling, swirling, never blue... How could you go and die? What a selfish thing to do... RIP Jason

Yeah. I am a Christian and I know a few gay people that are Christian (which my dad says otherwise). It just makes me mad. I said to him, "Dad. People used Bible versus to try to prove why Slavery was ok" and he said, "I agree. Those people were wrong" and I said, "Well, dad....I think you are wrong." UURRRRRRRGGGG!!!!

Not all Christian churches are like that, DJ. Mine is very liberal, we even have a local gay men's chorus sing sometimes and there are several gay couples. Don't give up on anything.

Insomniak--I don't blame ALL Christians (seeing that I am one), just the Southern Baptists that are all HOLIER THAN THOU and hypocritical (as is basically all of SC).

Boobs--I may need to come and stay with you in a couple of years while I do my Broadway try-out run. You think that room will still be available?

There have been many times that I absolutely despise my family. I am disabled, very ill, struggling financially and many times have to decide whether to buy prescriptions, groceries or pay bills. My clothes are falling apart. My family does not help me at all. However my mother just bought me a cemetery plot next to hers. Go figure. Sometimes you don't always get the family you want. And sometimes friends are the people you choose as family.
