I saw Oksana Baiul tonight, LOL!

There was some big event at the theater, and some of the biggest names in the business were there to be honored (performers). Well, the staff was all running around saying "did you see so and so? etc." All I could say is yeah, but did you see Oksana Baiul!!!! haha.

I don't think any of them knew who she was. Anyway, someone with the event said Oksana was going to do a broadway show. Huh?

Well, I can't say she looked good. Her hair was chin length and over peroxided to platinum. she was underdressed for the event. Everyone else was almost formal, and she had on a sweater and jeans, with cute boots. Her face looked horrible. She's not a pretty girl, but she didn't have makeup on.

yeah, we're so used to seeing celebs that it's no big deal, but when do I ever see a figure skater close up? I really was excited!

Wow, Brian's one of the all time greats! I was even excited last winter when they opened a skating rink in Bryant Park, and they had Michael Weiss, and John Zimmerman skating. I was sitting right up next to the ice, and was excited even though those guys aren't my favorites!

Jane, i would have been excited too. I am actually watching dancing with the stars to see Kristi Yamaguchi perform each week. There is definitely something about seeing an Olympic champion. I have to say I prefer the skaters of the 80s and 90s much more than most of them today. They just don't have the same artistry anymore. I remember never missing a skating competition or show on tv, now it isn't as big of a deal. The sport doesn't have the same spark for me; which is mostly due to the current crop of skaters and the weird new judging system.

Sesot, I agree. I don't think I'd be excited to see any of the new generation of figure skaters. Not one. WEll, maybe Johnny Weir because he's so weird!

I love Johnny Weir, but I know what you're saying. The skaters of the eighties and nineties hold a special place for me.

That's awesome, Jane! The 1994 Olympics were the first ones that I really followed and I can still remember the thrill of being allowed to stay up past my bedtime to watch the women's finals. Oksana was a true artist and deserved every bit of her gold medal.

I used to watch the VHS of The Wizard of Oz on ice all the time when I was younger. Oksana played Dorothy. She was my favorite skater because of that. My mom took me to see her in Champions on Ice and I nearly wet myself. Well, I was still pretty young. I still have the program.

YES! What a sweet moment! Nancy was obviously talented but I could never, ever warm to her. Oksana stole my heart (and her program was gorgeous).

I never thought monster Kerrigan was a great skater. I thought she was boring, with no tricks, not much choreography, fair jumper. I never could understand why she was so highly rated. Plus, she came off kind of mean.

I NEVER liked Kerrigan, as you can tell if you flip through my old Champions on Ice programs. I'm pretty sure I drew a big X through her face. What can I say--I was a very mature 9 year old

*sigh* This really makes me miss the good days of figure skating from when I was a kid. I LOVED my Kristi Yamaguchi brand roller blades with a toe stop instead of the heal stop. I'm really pulling for her on Dancing With the Stars!

Kristi's great on Dancing with the Stars! I always thought she had the best choreography in her skating programs.

I have Oz on Ice on VHS, and then I trasnferred it to DVD.

I'm still bitter at her for replacing the original girl who actually *looked* like Dorothy.

Ok I am SO not a fan of hers.

Years ago, when I was still figure skating heavily (and I mean YEARS ago. She was just becoming a household name at the time) she did an event at the rink where I skated. After the event, all the skaters from my rink were invited to do a free skate with her. We couldn't have been more disappointed with how rude she was. I don't even think rude is an accurate enough word -- she was downright nasty. Changed my opinion of her from that moment on.

Oh and the hour free skate it was supposed to be? She skated for about 10 of those minutes and then disappeared out the back with security.
