I must say, slant rhymes are often "better" than "real rhymes."
I'm not saying "in my opinion," of course it is my opinion, who else would be making subjective comments in my name on a message board. I would ban that phrase from the message board, were I King.

For example, if the use of a slant rhyme will provide more clarity than using a true rhyme, then the slant rhyme should be used. HOWEVER, I do believe that slant rhymes often sound awkward and forced, like the artist got lazy, threw in a word, and tried to pass it off as a rhyme. Hence my anger.

I agree, it is better not to rhyme at all, than to try a slant and fail. I just happen to love the good ones.

If used as parallelism, repeating the exact same line will work. It is understood that that line is identical to the first and you are not expecting a different rhyme at the end. This is acceptable. What does NOT work is using the same ending word with a different sentence. This is why Bso's doesn't sound good to the ear; the second line ending with "king" is not identical to the first.
For example, this WOULD work (though it doesn't make any sense):
I used to be the king,
Who'd always have a date!
I used to be the king,
And as bad as Rathnait!
