If Penelope Cruz WINS an Academy Award this year (now made easier for her with no Kate Winslet to compete with)...then "NINE" will have 6 ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS IN IT'S CAST!!!!!!
Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren...even without Cruz they have 5!
That is impressive!

I hope she wins. I haven't yet seen VCB, but I think she's scrumptious, and should have won for Volver anyway. :)
She was great in VCB! Was indifferent to her before (never seen VOLVER), but she sold me as María Elena. Definitely my fave pick for Supporting Actress, with Davis a close second.
I was indifferent to her as well (beyond thinking she had a great face), but I lost my mind over her in "Volver."

Now that Winslet is out of the Supporting Actress race, I'm pulling for Cruz or Adams; either one will be well deserved.
I loved her in Belle Epoque, Abre Los Ojos, How I Met Your Mother, and Woman on Top. But she really vaulted to the top in Volver and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I really hope she wins it this time. Her performance was perfection.
If she doesn't win this year she will have good momentum for "NINE" and she will surely win for singing "A Call from the Vatican" while naked and fingering herself!
Forgive me for speaking crude...but you know that will happen in the film

Cruz was great in "Belle Epoque" a beautiful film if you haven't seen it. I think it's time for her to get an Oscar, not that oscars necessarily have much weight with me. It will help her career and paycheck, though.
Whenever I think of Penelope Cruz I think of the joke they made about her in Family Guy.
But I love her, hope she wins.
Was that the horse joke?
I think she is a fantastic actress when given the right role/right direction. She is luminous in Almodovar films and it seems that Woody Allen fit her right as well. I trust that she'll be great in NINE.
I am pulling for either Davis or Cruz, but I wouldn't count out Amy Adams.
Cruz should win.
Davis is in the film for 3 minutes! A wasted nomination that should have gone to Debra Winger.
Do tell about the joke...maybe I can youtube it!
Also...what was Debra Winger in that she should have been nominated for?
Ummm Debra Winger was in RACHEL GETTING MARRIED for about 3 minutes too. And Davis' performance was outstanding. Both her and Adams gave fantastic performances in DOUBT.
I'd be very happy if she won; I've always had a sort of affinity for Penelope. She was far and away the best part of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a movie I really liked overall.
I love Marisa Tomei, too, though, and thought Viola Davis was really impressive, so I'll probably be happy whichever way it goes.
As for Nine, that'd be incredible...here's hoping Rob Marshall gets the best out of all those winners. La Loren and Penelope in Cruz in one movie? I'm so there. And Judi Dench doesn't hurt, either.

I love her! I became a big fan after I saw her in VOLVER. She was terrific. I hope she wins. So glad they put Winslet in the lead category. Ms. Cruz was luminous in VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA. I also admired Marisa Tomei and Viola Davis. Wonderful category.
