Did anyone see the documentary on David Geffen that was shown on PBS American Masters this past week? Fascinating!
----------
Notoriously press and camera-shy, David Geffen reveals himself for the first time in this unflinching portrait of a complex and compelling man, directed, produced and written by American Masters creator Susan Lacy. Geffen’s far-reaching influence — as agent and manager, record industry mogul, Hollywood and Broadway producer, and billionaire philanthropist — has helped shape American popular culture for the past four decades.

It was quite impressive and amazing actually.
I always knew a lot of him- but this really put things into perspective.
A very amazing documentary.
Watching it now. Thought I would hate it because I hate him. Ending up admiring him enormously and not hating him at all.
Exactly like PJ said. Can't believe I loved this so much!
I watched it twice. His early years were fascinating.
He's definitely more admirable before he sells his first company, when he's acting as the muse to a lot of great singer-songwriters. The power and money, as the expression goes, corrupt him, but there remains something of integrity about him, even as he becomes more and more ruthless.
And Cher humanizes him, oddly enough. I only wish that, in addition to admitting that his relationship with Cher was an aberration for him as a gay man, that he had spoken a bit about his romantic and sexual attempts at relationships with men.
The untold story there is the perhaps even more fascinating than the story of his early life as muse to the musicians.
Yeah, they kind of left his relationships with men out of the picture although he said he was gay.
I had never heard the Joni Mitchell song she wrote about him in Paris. Beautiful song. Have been listening to it all week.
Wow! What a great film! I had no idea he was such a fierce protector of and mentor to one of my favorite artists, Laura Nyro. (Silly me, I know.) Definitely worth watching.
