"Was watching Johnny Weir and Myra came to mind.
Don't ask why."
LOL! Johnny Weird.
It's a HOOT! By the way, The "Jock" she is doing is a very young Tom Selleck!!

Tom Selleck is the guy in Mae West's office that is being interviewed, not the guy that Raquel does....
showing it with VALLEY OF THE DOLLS over 4th of july
we have a gore vidal pinata filled with the most delightful red, white and blue dollies.
What're the white ones for again?
We intend to have a Dolls nite this weekend as well, VOD and BVOD...with cocktails, but I may bring m&ms so we can pretend...
I LOVE that movie...and especially the scene Marquise talks about......
It should be on a double bill with West's "Sextette" ( 1978 ).
That might qualify as an embarassement of riches though.
As crazy-wonderful-hideous as Myra B. is, nothing beats Miss West and Timothy Dalton crooning the Capt. & Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together."
I say let's shoot up and watch 'em BOTH!
My kind of "matinee madness."
What're the white ones for again?
Contrast.
Sounds like fun!
I saw it in the theater, when it was first released, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I, recently, tried to watch the DVD of it, and found it, unwatchable. Horrible, on every conceivable level.
"Watch it as a double feature with Mae West's Sextette."
My God. I'd rather take the gas pipe.
Rex Reed as Myron says it all.
It is up there with Showgirls

Rex Reed lives life with a fork stuck in him. And wearing mascara.
My favorite Rex Reed quote: "No matter how she spends her daddy's money, she still looks like a pizza waitress." - about Nancy Sinatra. I've used it many times since, but about the more appropriate, Tori Spelling!

I heart Myra Breckenridge. It's off-center, quirky, weird, askew, campy, vulgar, over-the-top. I heart it.
Read the book, people! The strap on scene will make you blush!
But I do love the way Raquel says, "She is MENTally reTAHded!"
Actually, I believe that Rex Reed gave it a very BAD review, in print, at the time.
If you can find a copy of the "movie tie-in" copy of the paperback (with Raquel in the same pose on the cover), in the picture section, there is a two page spread of Raquel pulling down the guys pants as he is strapped to a table!
And Gore Vidal's sequel, "Myron" is a delightful read, too.
I saw Rex on the manhunt one time...he shoulda used his original head shot...though in all fairness it's hard to scan a woodcut.
