"As state lawmakers gathered Tuesday to usher in a new session with their high hopes and soaring phrases, an informal survey showed that a majority of senators support the idea of same-sex marriage, though some said they wanted to review the details of newly proposed legislation."
If this legislation passes, and ends up on Christie's desk, will he sign, veto, or just wait 45 days and let it pass?

Posted: 1/18/12 at 5:44pmSadly, I can't imagine Christie signing it. He's interjected himself into national politics and this presidential primary process, and I just can't see him ruffling the feathers of the GOP on this. He's a frontrunner for the VP slot with Romney, and signing this would eliminate him from consideration, as well as from any future GOP national ticket.

Posted: 1/18/12 at 5:52pmI wouldn't be surprised if Christie vetoed it (he's a devout Catholic who makes no bones about NOT supporting same-sex unions of pretty much any kind), but it also wouldn't surprise me if he let it pass through inaction. I'm cautiously optimistic.

It is interesting, however, that he's remaining mum on the issue rather than coming out and saying he will veto it, as he has done in the past. He basically said he will make a decision when and if he has to.
I, too, am cautiously optimistic that he will not do anything, and it will go into law automatically after 45 days. Fingers crossed ... I want to get married!

Posted: 1/19/12 at 8:21amI am sure he will veto sadly. Just because he isn't saying anything doesn't mean he has changed his mind. He is stubborn and has said in the past that he will veto any same sex marriage bill. As a teacher, who has taken the brunt of this administrations policy and is now making less money then last year, I can say he is a man of his word

Posted: 1/19/12 at 3:24pmChristie will veto it, of course, after pretending to give it "serious thought" and all that. The Republican bigots aren't liking to appear too blatantly bigoted these days, they want to pretend that it is all about "tradition" and "history" and "social engineering" rather than the flat-out gay-bashing bigotry that it is.
