My friend is auditioning for the Canadian version of How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, judged by Andrew Lloyd Webber and I am trying to think of songs for her to audition with. She is a stunningly beautiful girl with a soaring soprano, and because of that people often assume she is a boring ingenue type, so I want a song that shows off her wicked sense of humour and acting chops too. So far my thoughts are Mr. Snow, Steps of the Palace, and I'm In Love With a Wonderful Guy.
Any suggestions from the Avs gang?

My only worry about Steps of the Palace is that with Webber judging, Sondheim will make him feel inadequate, hah.
I think Mr. Snow is the best bet and I am trying desperately to find a clip of Audra singing it online to play for her, but I can't seem to find any.

I can't think of any soprano songs off the top of my head.
Do the auditions work like American Idol? I know with AI, not every song is licensed out. Your friend might not be able to sing "Steps" at all.

Good. Webber needs to know his place in the Musical Theatre food chain. He's definitely near the bottom.

I think at this early stage of auditions it doesn't matter if they sing a licensed song or not, since they are not on the air quite yet.
