OUCH!
I remember the first time I went to Spain, I went tapas bar hopping. There were these delicious little fried things that I kept eating. I later found out they were bulls testicles, sliced wafer thin and deep fried in lemon and oil. Suddenly, they weren't so delicious anymore.
Guacamole is an amalgam of the Spanish "aguacate" (avocado) and "mole" (sauce).
That makes perfect sense.
well that didn't last long. she just burned me on my paper about Jesse Jackson. I didn't criticize him enough *eye roll*
Teacher giveth. And teacher taketh away.
Someone served me sweetbreads once. I thought it was just that, bread in gravy. I mean it had the same texture as doughy bread.
When I learned what they were I threw up. Literally.
ok you wanna enlighten me so i don't ever try it?
What, sweetbread?
yeah
I don't blame you for that one bit, Taz. I was warned about those so I knew to avoid them. No one told me about the bull's testicles, though, and everybody had a good laugh at my expense over that. Including me. It was disgusting, but funny too.
they are cow brains Polly.
They're considered a delicacy.
oh. i saw the street vendors cooking those in Tijuana. I was about 3 months pregnant with my second so i was still having morning sickness. and my hubby points this out to me. i was so grossed out i threw up in drain on the street.
In Guatemala I had cow tongue and tripe (stomach).
Tongue you can get at all the Delis in NY. Still gross though.
I ate alligator once when I was in Memphis.
How was it? Taste like chicken?
I had alligator once. Tasted like chicken. Salty, fishy chicken.
i've had alligator too. and snake. and possum. and racoon.
still wonder why i wanted to leave the south?
ETA- and squirrel. and rabbit.
It tasted like a rubbery chicken finger
