Where's the picture?
My dad can't keep his trap shut and sent out a huge mass e-mail bragging. I could've died!
If you think he's bad now, wait till you win a Tony!
Then he'll take out billboard ads along major highways!
CQT, you aren't Beyonce's brother, by any chance?

Mr. Efron looks pretty good in everything!
That Miss Cox ad, though? I hate that. I wish it would go away.

HAHA!
CQT, parents are funny beings. They don't want to facilitate your doing things, but brag majorly when they come to fruition.
Linnie, how many times has it been said that you are wise beyond your years?
Oh, your parents are like that too, Linnie? I thought my mother wrote the book and printed the t-shirt on that behaviour.

It's all moms!
Mine is awful like that. But I love her anyways.
that was my parents with my brother. Everything he did was like gold. I would then get big awards, scholarships, job promotions, and stuff like that and nothing. (yes I am bitter lol). I finally asked my dad what the deal was and he said that's because it is "expected" for me to succeed because that's all i've ever done, and my brother is a slacker so when he does something good it is shocking and cause for celebration.
i wasn't sure to be complimented or feel worse lol!
Hah...My parents are pretty low key people, both of them academics, and I think they were a bit unsure when I started to get into the arts. But ever so slowly they have become more supportive and when I got my good reviews this summer they got swept up in the excitement of it for once, which was really nice.

My sister is the same way. She has to really struggle for the grades that I somehow just end up with. My parents make a big deal when she does soemthign well.
It's never really bothered me, though, because I ended up with the voice. That's all I really care about!
polly, I'm always here if you want to pick my brains. Incidentally, did you read my little Spanish lesson from yesterday?
"I mean, she didn't have any special powers like Carrie did she SM?"
Don't you read, taz? I said she had stigmata.
so is she, like, the anti-christ? How cool would that be to say you went to school with the anti-christ?
Then everyone would say, "you look awfully young to have gone to school with George W."
At the risk of seeming vulnerable...
My parents didn't encourage my "artistic" aspirations. Well, my mom gave lip service of support, but little else. When someone suggested I try drama camp, my mom said she'd look into it, but nothing ever came of it. My dad, on the other hand, made it no secret that it displeased him that I'd rather "put on a show" than to play ball with him and my brother. He even forbade me to draw (my passion at the time), especially pictures of females. The man was strange!
I think my dad feared that I was gay, so he tried to steer me toward more "masculine" (read: heterosexual) pastimes (i.e. little league and youth soccer). I enjoyed those activities, but there was no passion.
Anyway, he's not my real father (I'm adopted), so his opinion(s) eventually became worthless. But his repression did have an affect on me. For one, I don't draw anymore. And two, until very recently, I've always associated the arts with shame.
you know what I'm going to say SM.
Adela - the musical
Draw. Get to an art store, buy yourself some sketch pads, charcoal, whatever, and draw. Draw. Draw. Draw.
Nothing frees up the mind more than having that hand moving across the page. Nothing.
I can screw up drawing a stick figure, so that cant be an option for me lol
I may just do that, D2, but it's been years. I don't know if I have it, anymore. I'll make an attempt and post it for y'all to see. Be kind.
taz, I've been thinking about it again recently. But at the rate I'm going, it'll be a lifetime achievement.
BTW: I failed art in high school. Oh, the shame!
You'll never know until you try it, and there's really nothing to lose - the more you draw, or paint, or whatever, the better you become at defining your own personal style. So maybe you don't draw like DaVinci, or even Picasso. Who the **** cares? The point is that you draw, you create, you develop your own way. And keep at it.
Same for you Tink.
Just keep doing it, and don't give up. That's all. Lecture over.
well i don't know about you guys, but i can't draw. however, writing is always an option.
EVERYBODY - put a pen or pencil in your hand and draw something, anything. Who cares what it looks like, just draw. Trust me, there's nothing like it to free the mind.
I just drew a picture of a poodle. Only I was trying to draw a house. I suck at this. Give me a piano.
tazzy, i'll write the play, you write the music and songs.
