G'night Taz!
Actually, now that I think about it, it's kind of interesting how you really need strong singers from most of the parts in Night Music (save for Desiree and Mme. Armfeldt) and yet they don't have many numbers.
ETA: And now that I've thought about it some more. I realized that Carl and Fredrik do have a lot to sing.

Posted: 7/18/07 at 11:09pmI know, and yet the score as a whole is so brilliantly all of a piece. It is a truly beautiful show - one of my favorites. I've always regretted not seeing the original B'way production; I had the chance and chose not to go. Stupid kid, wasn't I?

Posted: 7/18/07 at 11:14pmHa, perhaps. But you did see Sweeney Todd, which I would kill to see (even more so than Night Music).

Oh, Stagey, I'm sorry.
WWII, yes, I learned my lesson after ALNM and saw everything I could after that. I still missed a couple of gems, though: the original PACIFIC OVERTURES and MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG - I wish I'd seen them too. Ah well, every day a little death.

SM2, hope everything turns out alright. Best wishes to your brother.
I do wish the orginal Sweeney was filmed with Cariou instead of Hearn though. It's a shame the only record of Cariou's performance is the OBCR.

I know - I've always preferred Cariou's performance. It was darker, less melodramatic and far more frightening. Michael Cerveris gave a very similar performance.
A lot of wonderful memories have been stirred up tonight, WWII. As I said before, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC was one of my favorite theater experiences - pure joy from the the first rehearsal to the last performance. I'm still friendly with the director, the Desiree and "my" Anne.
Oh well, I'm getting tired too. I'm gonna go to bed soon.
Good night!

Hey Actr! I needed to put Sweeney back after listening to it again today.
And I must say, I love the Audra avatar!

Hi everyone!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday. I watched the Sweeney Todd DVD I got as a present the other night, and although it was good, I didn't think George Hearn was as good even as the guy I saw here (who's won Oliviers), or what I've seen of Michael Cerveris.
Hope everyone was well away from Grand Central (I know Deet for one wouldn't be seen dead there).
Not much news otherwise. So - Morning!

Morning Linnie!
I agree with you about George Hearn. I think he overacts.

Posted: 7/19/07 at 7:00amI don't think he's powerful enough either, though. Anyone can come out and hit the notes for the Ballad of Sweeney Todd. Epiphany is harder. But either, he lacks the drive and power. I could do a better job than some of the bits on the dvd.

Posted: 7/19/07 at 7:05amI do think he's a great singer, I just don't really like what he does acting wise. Still I'm just happy to have a record of Sweeney (and Lansbury!).

morning dears.
Happy late birthday Linnie. Sorry I wasn't really on long enough last night to wish it to you then. When do you get your internet back again??
Stagey honey I am so sorry about your brother.
Jaily- have some coffee, sober up a little, and tell us all about the hot latin boy.
None of you guys were near the explosion yesterday right? Everyone's ok??
