It's not observed anymore ever since... you know... but it's certainly acknowledged. Instead, we celebrated my mom's birthday at her favorite Mexican restaurant. My two sisters and I (my two brothers live far, far away) and their respective husband/fiancé footed the bill. It was a blast.
i was just teasing you SM. out of curiosity (& you can tell me to butt out if you like) are you the only one that was adopted and where do you fit (age wise) amongst your siblings?
well I'm glad that mom's bday was fun.
Almost done with your cds Polly!

Hi lovlies! I just finished Harry Potter. What's going on here?
It's the strange, little girl again. Does anyone else see her? She looks very turn of the century. Poor soul, to have died so young.

Yeah, it sucked, dying.
I love you SM!
Five of us were adopted, polly. There are six remaining in Guatemala. So, in all, there are eleven of us. I'm the fourth youngest in that roster. Of the five here, I'm the middle child.
ETA: Of course you do, doll. Everyone does. I'm just so gosh darn lovable!
cool thanks tazzy!
stagey thank you for telling me. do you get to see/talk to/write/whatever with your siblings that are still in Guatemala? (and btw i love you too stagey, regardless of how you treat me hehe)
hi DGG i finished HP yesterday. what did you think?
jaily took off quick didnt he
how would you say half-niece and half-nephew stagey?
sobrino medio and sobrina media?
Chuck and Larry beat out Harry Potter in the box office. That's a little odd.
HP v.s Chuck and Larry
that is so very sad. but probably not surprising. a homophobic movie poking fun at gay marriage is bound to get all the creeps in there
It was expected Soapy. Sandler movies always do HUGE box office. But as has been said on the hit or flop thread, a 27.8 million $ opening for hairspray exceeded studio expectations and placed it firmly on track to be a hit.
polly, we didn't have any contact whatsoever after the adoption, but we became reacquainted this past December, almost serendipitously.
I don't think there's a Spanish equivalent for half-niece or half-nephew. You would just say "sobrino" or "sobrina." Remember, in Hispanic culture, it's not unusual to have extended families. Bu if you insist, there's "sobrino/sobrina lejos," which literally translates as "distant nephew/niece."
And in case you're wondering, half-brother and half-sister is "medio hermano" and "medio hermana."
thanks stagey. i'm doing an assignment where we are supposed to write about our extended family. i am trying not to write a paper the length of the Constitution. i have too much family for an assignment like this:
Escribe un párrafo de más o menos cincuenta palabras sobre tu familia extendida. Incluye información sobre tus tíos, abuelos, primos, etcétera.

I really liked it, Plly. I'm going to have to re-read it soon, but I'm letting my sister read it first. I couldn't see the pages through my tears at some parts, so I'll have to backtrack.
i'll reread it too, but my son is reading it now. plus, i have homework i have to get done so it's probably good that he's reading it. Even if it does take him all week to read it. i read books repeatedly. and i also do like stagey and read multiple books at once. I usually have 5 or 6 going at one time.

Me too. I have three books to finish for AP English before school starts, and I know I'll be skipping around to those along with a bunch of other pleasure reads.
saw a really good movie last night called The Edukators.
It's foreign (germany) and the script and performances were amazing. If you're looking for something a little more thought provoking in your cinema diet I reccomend it.

Algebra...*shudders*
The grade I got on my algebra final...*shudders again*
Hey, you actually used accent marks! :)
Yeah, how are you going to include your entire tribe in just 50 or so words? I guess sacrifices will have to be made.
Looks interesting, taz. Will definitely check it out.
yeah especially since between hubby and i, i think we are related to half of oklahoma and texas. seems like it sometimes anyway. my dad has 5 siblings that made it to adulthood and only one of them didn't have children. plus he was married 4 times and had 3 kids. none of us have the same mom. plus my mom had a brother. he had 2 kids, and each of them have 2 kids. and my hubby's family, oh dear god.
you get the picture. it's a freaking zoo. there's actually a county in texas named after my husband's family
yeah DGG Algebra is definitely NOT my best subject. What the hell do i need algebra for as a theatre major anyway??

I'm not sure, my algebra teacher wouldn't tell us when we asked.
In Guatemala, I had a large family, too. Dozens of cousins and other relations. Here, I only have one aunt, three cousins (though only one growing up; the other two are much younger), and one set of grandparents.
