I'm glad you had fun. Did you buy him/her a present?
HAH harris, there was one definite possibility, but I wasn't that into him, and he had to leave early anyway. What is it with Maryland being totally devoid of men? I was supposed to go to a past hookup's birthday party last night (which would pretty much definitely have involved deja vu, as far as I can tell), but I didn't get back from California in time.
And taz, I was planning on it, but my other friend called me literally as I was on my way out to go shopping and asked if I wanted to go see Juno before the party, so I did that instead. I went to high school with the birthday boy, but he goes to NYU with me too, so I'll just get him something when we're back in the city.
Hah...I always post on BWW when I am drunk after a party. I think I am actually a better speller when I am drunk.
Akiva
Hahah, I'm probably a better speller too, because I'm always so paranoid that someone will think I'm drunk that I read everything seven or eight times to avoid any tipsy-seeming typos!
You're not, Akiva.
You're not.
Scott, I thought this was a dry party.
he's only "tipsy" matty. for him that is dry.
Well, in theory it was going to be one, but there was some minor pregaming action and a few bottles of wine discreetly making the rounds in the basement. Definitely not drunken debauchery, but not rampant sobriety either.
Hah...Roz...you of all people would know.
Akiva
what are your plans for New Years?
*the cows skate to roll in the hay*
A dry party to me is a fully-clothed orgy.
Oh, please. If I hadn't mentioned being tipsy, would anyone have guessed it? Although, come to think of it, that might be more due to a lack of inhibition on my part when sober than anything else...
And taz, if that was directed at me, I'm going to my friend's (most definitely dry) party the night of, and then helping out at my family's party on the first. We usually have an open house with a few hundred of our closest friends, but this year my mom didn't feel like planning it, so we're just having my parents' college friends, a much smaller demographic.
I found out I'm not working on New Years...which sort of scares me because now I have to make plans. This is my first year not in my hometown, which makes me uber sad. And considering how lame my friends are being this month, I am considering just getting drunk at home and watching DVDs or something. I usually party hard, but this year I don't really have anyone around I want to do that with.
Akiva
We always figure you are tipsy Scott.
The kids and I have a movie marathon for New Years Eve...2 picks each, and let me tell you with between the 17, 14, and 11 year old there is generally an eclectic variety. A couple years ago I mandated an unbreakable rule: Every one of us must watching every movie of the New Years Eve marathon -- no matter what.
i was asking you Scott. I'm keeping it quiet too. New Years isn't one of the holidays we go crazy over.
Just me and the bros and Ari's gf.
Every New Years my mom would complain that Pajama Game wasn't on TV, because growing up it was always on on New Years Eve (for some weird reason) and she used to watch it. Last year my Hanukkah present to her was the DVD, and she was pretty moved. It was a weird feeling because me and my mother aren't close that way, so it was cool to find that gift that made her smile like that. I emailed her yesterday to enjoy the Pajama Game DD this year without me, which made me sad.
Wow...I dunno where that story came from...I'm tired.
Akiva
Yeah, somehow I've never been able to get too excited about New Year's. It's a nice excuse for a holiday, I guess, but there's no real REASON for it aside from the calendar.
And now I have to be up for the next fifteen minutes or so to let Rufus doing Judy at Carnegie Hall download... did anything exciting happen in the thread while I was in California? I feel bad for having missed a good thirty or so pages, but I really don't feel like going back and reading all of it unless something really earth-shattering happened, like harris coming out or Stagey confessing that he's actually a virgin.
that's a great tradition radi.
And akiva, that's a really sweet story. i'll bet it's one of her favorite presents.
What about you Ros? SM?
I'm a born-again virgin, scott. Too bad you missed the virgin thread.
My sibs and their significant others mentioned a possible get-together. But that was up in the air. We shall see.
Radi: Aww...I love that tradition
Taz: THat seems like a nice low-key night. I wish I could have my first New Years with my brother, who just moved here, but he has caused so much drama with my friends in such a short time, that I feel like I need to distance myself from then all on New Years in order to have any sort of fun.
For some reason I make New Years a big deal in my head, and always build up these huge expectations.
Akiva
Stagey, if you're a virgin of any kind, then I'm a nice person.
absolutely nothing of any impot happened in this thread scott. If you missed anything exciting I would tell you.
We had a few new socks come and go, but otherwise it's been remarkably mundane.
I'm an ACTUAL virgin...hmm....maybe I should incorporate that into my New Years Resolution.
