Overtures is a difficult work with some wonderful songs.

People always overlook There Is No Other Way and Crysanthemum Tea, two of his finest songs IMO.

Taz,

I'd love to see you respond to that thread. There are some composer's whose work I just can't seem to get into and I feel I need to sort of be eased into their style (LaChiusa is really the one that stands out). I'd love to see your take on Sondheim, Finn, Brown, Guettel, etc.

Apparently, this production is some kind of big deal. I don't know the particulars, but I think it's the west coast premiere of a certain version or kind of staging. It's gotten a fair amount of press.


edit: "The first fully staged, professional production of this important Tony Award winning musical in Los Angeles." - according to Playbill. That seems incredible to me, but there it is.

YWIW - yes, but I didn't find out about that until after I got the tix. The TinMan saw their AMADEUS (a friend was in it,) and that's how we heard about the production.

Wow, I haven't been in here in AGES!

How is everyone doing this morning? I'm sitting here watching my little guy take a nap. He is getting so big and I think that he is starting to dream more frequently because every now and then he will get this smile on his face while he sleeps that looks like he has just seen the most amazing thing on earth.

I can't believe that the summer is almost over and I'll have to go back to work and put him in day care. It is killing me, but I'm excited to get back in to the classroom too.
