I refuse to believe that - the ties are too . . . binding

Please - that young man never sleeps!
Unless the aforementioned 'planet realignment' actually occurred, and I was unaware.
But, I actually pay attention to that stuff!
Anyway, how are YOU?

Tired. Just finished working out. I wasn't in the mood all day, so I finally decided to suck it up and do it.
And you?

See, I fall into the category of 'I won't be disappointed if I don't ask too much of myself'
Honestly, my day was comprised of lazing around waiting for our dinner engagement with friends - which was lovely and wonderful.
Then, having spent our energy for the day, we returned to the house and became lazy lumps once again!
Such is the life of leisure - long may it wave

Posted: 7/18/08 at 1:45amSounds perfect. I spent most of this week doing the same. Summer vacation is supposed to be relaxing, after all. Next week, though, I have to start thinking about starting school again in the fall. Back to real life and whatnot.

Don't know whether you know it or not, but I'm partnered with a retired school teacher - so I have a bit of a 'thing' for those in the profession

Ha! No, I didn't know that. I'm starting Ph.D. school in the fall, so I suppose you're talking to a future college professor.

No, I wouldn't
I'm just jazzed to see that people are continuing the pursuit of educating the populace - on whatever level.
They need it

Posted: 7/18/08 at 2:10amI hear that. Over the past few years, I've worked in university writing centers, and I'm constantly flabbergasted by what some of these students think is quality work. I get my own classroom for the first time next spring. Truth be told, I'm slightly terrified.

Ha - you probably should be - it'll keep you on your toes!
The whole spectrum of education is so broad. My husband caught them right at the beginning of the journey - and unfortunately had to deal with the reality of parents who weren't along for the ride.
You seem focussed on a time when they should be developing their own path - but that can be SO frustrating when you see that they're NOT grabbing their own brass ring.
I had some experience as a teacher, and I simply couldn't continue - I just couldn't process the disconnect between what I knew, and what they were supposed to learn - for whatever reason.
My respect is endless, but so is my sympathy

It's definitely going to be a challenge. I actually resisted the whole teaching thing for a long, long time. It wasn't until the tail end of master's degree school that I decided that I might perpetually belong in the classroom. My mom, now an elementary school principal, taught various grade levels during my childhood, and I knew then that I would never be able to do what she does. I don't have the patience or the communication skills to deal with the young ones. I'm hoping it'll be slightly easier dealing with adults who aren't legally forced to be in my classroom. Of course, they'll probably come with a whole new set of challenges I've never even imagined. I suppose only time will tell.
And thanks for that last bit. I appreciate it.
On that note, I'm going to sign off for the night. Gotta get my rest because my mom and I are going to an early show of Mamma Mia! in the morning. Have a good night! I hope someone else shows up to entertain you in my absence.

I don't know where taz is, but I'm here if that's any consolation.
(I suddenly have a feeling of déjà vu.)

I woke up. Can't sleep anymore, and probably won't for the rest of the night.
What's new with you?
(I was gonna add "old man," but I thought better of it.)

I just like that you were thinking!
At the risk of giving you a complex, I'm actually out of here. I just can't keep going!
And what's new with me is what's always been - a great day alive with the hope of another to follow

I sincerely regret my recent late night absenteeism. I have been lax in my repsonsibilities, and I accept the consequences. I hope all my fellow night owls can forgive me and that we can move forward to many more early mornings of insanity and debauchery.
