Posted: 7/19/08 at 2:09amI wonder if they'll keep the "la la overture" for the opening credits. When I listen to the OBCR, I picture an out-of-focus shot of a Venetian piazza while the overture plays and the credits appear on the screen. Then, at the end, it all comes into focus, a zoom, quick shots of individuals among the crowd, which leads into "Not Since Charlie Chaplin."

But I was merely a poor man's tazber -- tazbermania, if you will: "Not tazber, but a an incredible simulation." (Or is it stimulation?)

So I watched a movie about the early years of Raimon Gaito* called Romulus, My Father tonight. It was quite good.
What did all you guys do?
*he was a philosopher/author. I didn't realize it was a true story until the end credits. Never heard of him until tonight.

We went to this year's presentation by a children's theatre group that the TinMan co-produced for awhile. It was quite entertaining - mostly because a couple of the young people (who are now 22) are amongst our 'adopted children', and this was their last production. It made us feel so GOOD that kids are still doing this stuff.
And, we were all teary because 'our kids' were the stars
And just for context, the woman who starred in the MILLIE tour was once in this group - they mean business. Their budget for this little summer show is 100 grand!

Actually, this year it was. They rotate a very small selection of shows geared for young performers and audiences (think ANNIE - ugh) but thrown in the mix is this show, which is a revue. All the usual suspects - BUT, the program is really built around MONTHS of classes in the performing arts - acting, singing, dancing, etc. This summer show is just the 'icing on the cake'.
Much to my delight, one of the training foci is in tap - so there was a spectacular number from 42nd STREET featuring their advanced tap students! I just LOVE that
The fact that it starred and featured one of those aforementioned 'adopted children' is a coincidence.
Really.

Taz - much to Spidey's chagrin (remember him?!?) Etta lives just up the highway from us. I see her all the time
I am a Blues FANATIC, so Miss Thing is the Be All, End All for me.
Except for Koko Taylor, who claims the Blues crown (and as a friend observed, "If you looked like that, you couldn't sing anything BUT the Blues!")

you may recall that we bonded over our mutual love of the blues awhile back DG.
I've recently been getting into Johnny Otis.

Johnny is a legend - you know he discovered Etta (well, produced her first hit, anyway)?
And, as a keyboardist, ALWAYS gets primary consideration for me

I didn't know he produced her first hit. Wow.
I miss Ruth Brown.

Uh... I have nothing of importance to contribute to this convo.
HOWEVAH, I've been listening to Johnny Cash lately and he makes a lot of blues references in his songs, like "Get Rhythm," "Folsom Prison Blues," "Home Of The Blues," and "Cocaine Blues."
