You'd be wise to ask yourself, "Do I know where my baby is"?!

Jean Smart's delivery of the "thousand island" line still makes me laugh!! We still watch the reruns regularly. All four women were terrific, and then add the brilliant Alice Ghostly!?!

Posted: 2/21/14 at 4:53amI have never understood the difference between Thousand Island and Russian dressing. They both look and taste the same. Someone once told me that Thousand Island has chopped pickles in it and Russian does not but I have seen Russian dressing that contained chopped pickles.

bobs3, I actually visited Thousand Islands National Park a couple of years ago. This is where Thousand Island dressing was said to have originated at some hotel there. There are actually closer to 2000 islands in that part of the St Lawrence river. Some of them are so small though that I wouldn't really call them an island. The rule is that they have to be above the waterline all year, be more than one square foot and have at least on tree.
According to the folks there, Russian dressing is mayo, ketchup, horseradish and minced onion. maybe you mistook the onion for pickles? Thousand Island is basically mayo, ketchup and chopped pickles (or pickle relish.) The pickle bits were added to represent the islands.

A typical Russian dressing has a base of yogurt, mayonnaise or ketchup. Additional spices may be added to alter the flavor, as well as horseradish, pimentos or chives. Thousand Island dressing has a similar mayonnaise base; however, additional ingredients include finely chopped vegetables such as pickles, onions and green olives. The biggest difference between the two dressings is that Thousand Island dressings often include a finely chopped hard-boiled egg.

But, the line is, "Is this French or Thousand Island?" No mention of Russian dressing.
The belly laugh comes after the regal line read of "I dont care for Thousand Island" with her arm covered in it to her elbow as she scraps it off...making me giggle right now.
