I've seen people do it at the THEATRE all the time! In fact, our theatre has a little basket with cough drops so I guess it's okay. It's not polite to cough during a performance, so I'd rather someone chewing on a cough drop than hacking themselves to death! It's NOT polite to bring a baby to BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and let the baby cry all through "Be Our Guest"!!! Which brings up another question: is it polite to turn around and tell people to shut the hell up during a performance? Or at least turn around and stuff a cough drop down the baby's mouth? as long as he doesn't choke on it.....

Does one chew a cough drop? I know one sucks on a cough drop. I know one crunches a cough drop? But does one actually chew a cough drop?
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

As a state-certified Glamour Foto technician, I can tell you that it is defintely considered impolite to chew a cough drop in a public setting. I would appreciate it if you would refrain from doing that in my presence. I have a very delicate constitution. Thanks, honey!

If you have that cough drop in your mouth, please don't make any disgusting sucking sound. Also, try not to let the cough drop hit any of your teeth while it sits in your mouth, that also is annoying. If you are sick, please stay home.

I agree that when we are sick, we should stay home and rest. BUT with the strict rules of ticket dealers like Telecharge and their ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES policy, what is a theater-goer to do. Suppose you scrambled to get Nathan and Matthew Producers tickets months in advance and then the week of the show, you come down with a horrible cold? We can't in large measure control when we get sick. And those tix ain't cheap!

Theatre-speaking, I'd much rather someone have a cough drop in their mouth than trying to unwrap the damn thing inconspicuously -- which is NOT inconspicuous because of the cellophane -- thereby sending their fellow audience members and performers (if the culprit is in the first 7 rows) into a state of rage and revenge.
If you gotta do it, unwrap it QUICK and pop it in your mouth, fercrissakes.

I would rather people have coughdrops in their mouths as opposed to gum. I don't understand gum. ?? It causes cavities, it runs out of flavor, and it's not really edible. Plus, most people sound like cows chewing on grass when they have gum in their mouths.
If your breath is bad, pop a mint in your mouth...or better yet, a listerine strip (less noise).
With cough drops...well, it's better than hearing the actual coughing.

Oh Dollypop, gum on the seat, yuck. Flashback to last time I was at a ballgame. (And yes, I removed the shorts before getting in the car for the ride home.)
But chewing a cough drop? Is that any worse the chewing that fine layer of ice atop an apple-tini?

I think that cough drops are ok as long as you don't do those REALLY annoying things with them like making to many saliva-related noises or unwrapping them during the show. I've had bad theatre-goers sitting next to me but I've had more polite than not. "The Donald" is actually a surprisingly polite theatre-goer (although he does have a soft-spot for Dots)

for all those concerned with"turning around to tell someone to shut up"-why not just turn around and ask them politely to be quiet-makes the whole theater just a whole lot politier

Hearing people around me cough and sneeze all through the second act of a show always makes me feel gross, and usually about a week later I've got a cold too...eesh. Cough drops are OK by me, I don't understand how you'd chew them (yes, gothampc, I too am confused by this) but oh well. If you gotta unwrap them, though, just do it quickly- the little noises of *crinkle*....*crinkle*...*crinkle* are enough to drive a person crazy!
Isn't it against theatre rules to bring small children to shows? I think I've seen policies that don't allow children under 5 into a theatre.

If you are giving a speech, get the darn thing out of your mouth. If you are sitting in a dark theatre, no clanking/rattling it against your teeth, and definitely no slurpy/sucky sounds.
