Has anyone else heard of this? It's a phenomenon at my school and spreading like a plague - you can eat the Stride gum wrapper. just put the whole thing in your mouth, wrapper and all, and 30 seconds later, there's no wrapper...
I'm just worried how it'll affect my digestive system...

I wouldn't think it's edible. Why would you eat the gum wrapper anyway? Are you that desperate?

It's just an interesting thing. I was thinking and thought perhaps it's a plan to prevent littering :)
But I'm not making this up. Go out and buy some. Any flavor.

From answers.com:
"The Edible Wrapper"
A secret of Stride gum is that you can eat the wrapper with the gum in it. The wrapper eventually dissolves and makes the gum a much darker color. This applies to all flavors of Stride gum, but the blue has the most noticeable effect. It is not known if this was done by accident or a secret made to be discovered by the consumer.

P.S. The wrapper is apparently rice paper.

I grilled chicken this past Tuesday and threw the packaging in the garbage. When I woke up Wednesday morning I discovered that the cats had dug through the garbage and while the Styrofoam tray was still intact, they apparently ATE the piece of paper that separates the chicken from the tray. They've only just stopped yacking that thing up today.
Mildly irrelevant I'm sure, but you were the one asking about eating paper.

FWIW ... The gum company denies it's edible ... a high school social studies class in East Canton, Ohio called Stride's 800 number to inquire about it. The operator told the class that the wrapper is NOT meant to be eaten but should be disposed of properly. She also tells the class that they get lots of calls about the rumor (including from schools) and that they don't know how it got started. - Barb
