The GOP has never been known for their charm, however, their recent tactics have gone beyond the pale. They're using inciteful language, and whipping their most extreme supporters into a frenzy. The result? There have been several incidents where bricks have been thrown though the windows of members of Congress or Democratic offices. The brother of one Congressman had the gas line cut at his house after a blogger published his home address. Another extreme group is planning a demonstration at the home of another Congressman.
In addition, today the GOP basically brought the Senate to a halt, for no purpose other than to inconvenience everyone. Most committee meetings were halted, including meetings on homeless vets, our policy in Afghanistan, and tensions in North Korea. Looks like they were doing this to protest healthcare reform, but their actions did nothing to delay healthcare, they only inconvenienced veterans and military officers.

Any pretense for the GOP wanting bipartisanship has sailed off into the abyss. Their sole purpose in life now seems to be crushing anything that the Democrats support, even if totally reprehensible and uncivil statements and actions are required to achieve their aims.
Yes, yes ..... not all Republicans shout out nasty slurs, or insult the opposition, but the rest of the GOP sits idly by as we see members of congress emboldened by the right-wing talk show whackos. Except for a few pro-forma "apologies" they stay quiet.

Posted: 3/25/10 at 1:27amThey are doing more harm than good to their chances to gain seats in 2010. The incitement and lack of judgment is astounding. Any doubts I have about the Dems are immediately put to rest when I see the alternative.

My entire family who were all mostly Republicans are all now Independents and a few have become Democrats. I am working on the other Independents in my family.Cousins I use to argue with at family events over conservative values are no agreeing with me and bashing the politicians they were defending 2-3 years ago.I've had very little to do with this. It's all been the actions of the Republican party.

please. like no one here read du for the last 8 years. just because the threats and contemplations of death and worse were kept under wraps and not splashed across the front pages don't mean they weren't there.
sure the gop is currently in a major crisis. had hcr not passed the stories would be all about the schism about to tear the democrats apart. but now the battle for what's left of the gop coalition of fiscal conservatives, social conservatives and bat-sh*t crazy anti-government loons is being played out on the front pages.
don't worry, barry will declare martial law soon enough and label anyone who disagrees with him as an enemy of the state and begin the re-education efforts along with the state control of all aspects of civilian life. i mean those we're the very dire prospects predicted by some here when bush was president. gay gulags! martial law! halliburton and blackwater controlling the entire country!

as far as consequences, the democrats are still gonna lose a ****load of seats, but i think the gop will too. at least a lot of incumbents will get booted because people are scared and don't trust congress. the gop's tearing itself apart at the seams and will continue to do so, but will gain ground this fall - with some more loons getting in after primarying sitting congress critters.

You know the funny thing Papa, I am now considering sending money to some of those dems being targeted by the GOP.
My belief is some on the fringe of the GOP/Teaparty movement fear that the Dems will do exactly what these freaks would do if given the chance.
The sad thing is (IMO) is that if there was violence to some of the Dems Rep, a faction would applaud it (just as they did when Dr. Tiller was murdered by a domestic terrorist).

Windows were shattered at four Democratic offices in New York, Arizona and Kansas and at least 10 members of Congress have reported some sort of threats, leaders said. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, but the FBI is investigating.
Democratic Underground posters didn't throw bricks through windows, did they?

My sister-in-law just deleted me from her friends on Facebook and sent confrontational messages to my entire family (uncles, cousins, etc.). She wants to cut off my parents and I from my brother and my niece and nephew because of the health care bill.
Funny thing is, I do remember people behaving this way over the Iraq invasion, but my parents and I never made any threats or confronted my brother and his wife about it. I'm just stunned. With this, my father's illness, the worst work-related stress and anxiety I've encountered in 15 years, and the recent suicide of a man I used to work with, I'm really starting to lose it. I think I slept 3 hours last night. Luckily, I'm going on vacation today and hopefully, I can have a week of total escapism.

Mister Matt, hearing about your sister in law just makes me sick.I work with someone who had a similar problem in their family the other day. It really is a civil war isn't it? I heard one local radio host today ask what happens if Democrats win big in 2010? Seems like a GOP Victory this November is the only thing keeping thee nuts going. The only thing they have to look forward to. If the Democrats win in November,what will they do?

Not shocking. You hope that ignorance would be going slightly out of style after it plunged the global economy into a black hole, but no, it's gathering steam. Combine this ignorance and violence with other issues, like the rising gap between the classes and people being pushed to their limits, and the teabaggers won't be the only Americans committing acts of violence, and if it escalates, they won't be so specific about their targets.
Which means curfews, police states, martial law, basically Blade Runner, but with mom jeans.
