Isaiah Washington has been fired

"MZ has confirmed that Isaiah Washington has been fired from the ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy."

Washington's rep, Howard Bragman, confirmed this evening to TMZ that "Grey's" creator Shonda Rhimes called Isaiah today and told him he would not be invited back to the show next season. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, who first broke the story, reports that the decision was due only in part to Washington's on-set troubles, and was a result of a "pattern of problematic behavior."

As for how he feels about his termination, Washington issued the following statement: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Please, Priest - they could have just had him shot by someone, and Sandra could have garnered an Emmy in the process

I'm suprised they took this long to make it official.

Washington's representation had hoped to find a new TV project for him amidst the offerings of this coming season, figuring ABC would let him out of his contract to do so as it was known admist both parties he wouldn't be coming back to the show. They chose not to release him until today, which prevented him from booking a pilot elsewhere (though he wasn't getting any multitude of offers anyway.)

Though I will miss the character of Burke and the element he brought to the show, this move is what's best for everyone. Washington's repeatedly inappropriate actions were uncalled for and unprofessional, and his dismissal (and the way it was handled within the context of the show) is the right move to make.

About time. I couldn't care a whit about the offensive comments and all the media attention. His character just wasn't creating or aiding compelling storylines.

And Kringas - I think they're probably just giving props for sticking in there (he had threatened leaving, if I remember correctly.)

I'll have to read it. I assumed it was about him coming out, which I'm sure was tough, but he didn't really so much come out as get forced out. And he's just seemed rather craven to me through it all.

I don't know how I feel about Washington being fired. I might care more if Grey's hadn't pissed me off so much this season.

The whole George and Izzie thing really soured me on the show. As did the whole season finale, which was just so friggin unpleasant all around. And as much as Meredith bugs me, I think the writers need to give her a break.

I would say Katherine is more of a hero than T.R. Way to stand up for a friend and not back down. I don't like Izzy right now, but I am sure I would like Katherine.

While I didn't particularly like Burke, with him and Addison leaving the hospital, they are really going to need some fresh characters. I am not sure I could take another season of the McDreamy back and forth.
