re: Israel attacks Gaza Strip

Because Hamas Charter prefers War to Peace:

===

Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it....

The Islamic World is burning. It is incumbent upon each one of us to pour some water, little as it may be, with a view of extinguishing as much of the fire as he can, without awaiting action by the others....

For our struggle against the Jews is extremely wide-ranging and grave, so much so that it will need all the loyal efforts we can wield, to be followed by further steps and reinforced by successive battalions from the multifarious Arab and Islamic world, until the enemies are defeated and Allah’s victory prevails....

The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!...

[Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement...

There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. The initiatives, proposals and International Conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility. The Palestinian people are too noble to have their future, their right and their destiny submitted to a vain game.

PalJoey , the Hamas Charter may prefer war to peace, but I'll tell you one thing I've found from traveling around the world, including the mid-east. Most people just want to raise their families in peace and have their children grow up in a peaceful world. Whether it's Israel, Lebanon, the former Soviet Union, China, Eastern Europe, Western Europe or the United States.

I don't think anyone would disagree with that, KrissySim. But that sentiment doesn't seem to be powerful enough.

I know. It only takes a small group of radicals to upset the equation.

It's a much more complicated situation than we can ever seem to understand.

Egyptians open fire on Palestinians

Egyptian border guards have opened fire on Palestinians who breached the border to escape Israel's assault on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

An Egyptian security official said there were at least five breaches along the nine-mile border and hundreds of Palestinian residents were pouring in.

At least 300 Egyptian border guards have been rushed to the area to reseal the border, the official added on condition on anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the press.

A resident of the Gaza Strip side of the border, Fida Kishta, said that Egyptian border guards opened fire to drive back the Palestinians.

Residents have also commandeered a bulldozer to open new breaches.

Palestinians reported several people were wounded by the gunfire.

Israeli aircraft earlier bombed the border area in an apparent attempt to destroy cross border tunnels used to smuggle weapons and contraband into the Gaza Strip.

Dr Abdel Qader Higazi, a representative of the Egyptian Doctor's Syndicate in Rafah said Egyptian authorities closed the border crossing after allowing several trucks of medical supplies into Gaza.

A friend just sent me a PM saying,
"If Hamas would put down their weapons, there would be peace. If the Jews put down their wepons, they would get killed."

Except that's completely untrue. If Hamas put their weapons down the Israelis would overrun the Palestinians occupy Gaza.

re: Israel attacks Gaza Strip

Tell that to the Jewish people in the south of Israel who have been living with MISSILES being launched at them for the past seven years.

I do not support any violent action, but Israelis can't keep being p***ed on while the world calls it rain.

Yes, well, you know, lets see how many more houses they bulldoze, and how many more walls they build, cause that really helps their case.

No, it helps our LIVES. So we have lives at all.

"If Hamas put their weapons down..."

As my grandmother used to say: "If, if, if. If my grandmother had balls, she would be my grandfather."

re: Israel attacks Gaza Strip

That's an excellent line Diva. and completely true.

When Israel defends herself they aim for stratigic targets (which the plaestinians intentionally place among it's civiliiains), when the palestinians attack they *target* the innocent.
....but the world goes 'round

That's the truth in a nutshell.

re: Israel attacks Gaza Strip

Aw, it's so funny when people assume that entire countries have unitary motivations.

If Hamas put its weapons down Israel would overrun it? Not hardly, you simplistic twit. There are fundamentalist jackasses who would happily vaporize every Muslim on the planet and expand Israel's borders to include the entirety of the West Bank and Gaza Strip (and maybe Golan Heights...). Then there are the IDF soldiers throwing them out of their settlements. There are the officials who turned a blind eye to the illegal settlers in the first place and those who want to make efforts at an actual dialogue with the Palestinians. It's a parliamentary government - look at the number of parties some time.

A major problem for all sides in this conflict right now is a lack of strong leadership. Some Israelis complain that they have no one to negotiate with because of the infighting between Hamas and Fatah, but as long as Israeli teeters between winking at hard-right settlers and condemning them and recycles Prime Ministers like it's going out of style, it's not much of a negotiating partner, either.

You know who I like to blame? Bush Jr. Because there was a time when America pushed Israel to be its best self, come forward to the negotiating table, and generally not to **** around needlessly with the Palestinians. But Bush's idea of being Israel-friendly was the neocon one - "do what Likud would do" - and so this administration has sat back for most of eight years and let Likudniks and their ilk encourage needless acts of spite, violence, and Jewish settlement in territories they're not supposed to be touching.

Israel and Palestine are out of heroes - the original pioneering generation of politician-generals in this conflict died with Arafat and Sharon. Bush could have done so much to influence the new shape of things. Instead he did nothing, and voila, result. (Then again, considering his idea of diplomacy, that might be for the best.)

What's the difference? You're still a hater with this screen name whether it's your only one or one of many.

What's your reply to Plum's post?

re: Israel attacks Gaza Strip

As much as I hate bush and would love to blame him for everything, THIS IS NOT HIS FAULT. He hasn't HELPED the situation, but this conflict is millenia old. Of course the creation of the nation of Israel exacerbated problems, and the UN should have thought a little better about that, but its too late now. In the literal since, the only way this ends is when one side completely eliminates the other.

Oh and PJ can go **** himself everyday for the rest of what's left of his pathetic life. I do not hate Jews. I am not the biggest fan of the nation of Israel, but the two are not mutually exclusive. and My problem isn't even with the Israeli people it is with the Israeli government and military.
