Katherine Heigl has confirmed that she's leaving "Grey's Anatomy" and is not coming back.
“I am done,” the actress tells Entertainment Weekly in its new issue. “We just finalized our agreement. Everyone had been working really hard to find an amicable and gracious way of letting go and moving on. It’s sad but it’s what I wanted.”
In the end, Heigl decided to leave the hit ABC show because of her family — and not necessarily to advance her film career. “I started a family and it changed everything for me,” she says. “It changed my desire to work full-time.”
And if fans are expecting a big farewell arc, they may be disappointed. Heigl tells Entertainment Weekly that her Jan. 21 episode was her last — and that she is no longer appearing in the season’s final five episodes. “I know I’m disappointing the fans,” she tells EW. “I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one.”
I will miss her, but I'm not shocked by this.

Good riddance. I am tired of her yearly drama.
I agree, though I think its a little silly that soon after she left Lexie felt the need to go blonde. Would the show fail without a "hot blonde" for Alex to hook up with?
Well, (yes. I realize I know WAY too much about this crap)the actress playing Lexie had been begging to go blonde for months and the writers saw a way that it was storyline driven. Of course, Heigl had been begging to go darker and they had said no to that, too.
Thank god! Now her and TR Knight can quit their bitching about being on a hit show and enjoy their obscurity. Heigl thinks she a movie star, but she's not even close. In two years she'll be doing Lifetime and Oxygen movies.
Good. Let's see if her true passion of raising her daughter is what she really plans, or if we'll see her again soon.
GA's in the top 15 for ratings, so it's not like her job wasn't secure. But she's got this new film with Ashton Kutcher coming out soon that's gotten some healthy buzz. She's focusing on films, although I agree she's not a film star, and she's got a daughter. GA doesn't fit into that, well, good on her for having to choose between pots of gold. I don't like her all that much. Give her a year--maybe she'll be doing guesties on GA.

I doubt they'd want her back. She needs to move on the bite the next hand that feeds her.
I may just be too jaded, but she wanted out last year. She negotiated a contract that allowed her time off to shoot a movie. She adopted a daughter at EXACTLY the time when her film hiatus ended and then she took a three month maternity leave. Ellen Pompeo only took four weeks AND shot in advance so she wouldn't miss episodes. She blamed the rushed adoption on the fact that her daughter has special needs. That all may be true and I know she has always wanted to adopt, but the timing seems awfully convenient. I am such a bitch.

Remember when she made a point of saying she took her name out of Emmy consideration because the material she was given wasn't up to par?
Remember how Knocked Up was a big fat hit and THEN she complained about the ugly misogyny of it (which, to be fair, was spot-on, although I always thought of her as just pandering to the backlash against that ugly movie)?
I was actually thinking the same thing about wanting out and then all of this just happened to come up. Oh well, to me, she is no great loss.
How long has this departure been dragging on? I'm surprised the show is planning another season as there seems to be no reason to continue keeping it on life support. Pull the plug and put us out of our misery. Nothing interesting has occurred on the show for a very VERY long time.
There are a few people I would drop from the show at this point. I think Alex should have gone with her, but apparently there's some things about his past coming up. I like Callie, Mark, Yang, Owen, Meredith and Derek. Arizona still seems to be a little too perfect other than the no kids comment. Needless to say, I am still interested. I don't sit down and watch like I used to. I am usually doing other things.

It's still better than that piece of crap Private Practice.
Man... Addison is a WHORE.

THAT show is really terrible (and yeah, yeah, yeah, I know "if you hate it don't watch it," but I have a LOT of time on my hands these days, okay?). I liked how they had to set up a few episodes back that Renee was so crazy anti-abortion (but she's pro-divorce and non-martial sex like gangbusters) so that when her daughter got pregnant so she could effing flip out and wrestle with putting her soul on the line to make her get an abortion. So dumb.
Phyllis,
And by Renee you mean Naomi, or am I so bored by that show that I missed another storyline?
Yeah, he means Naomi who is now dating old dude and wheels. Addison was kissing Sam in one episode, sleeping with Mark the next, making out with Sam in the third and sleeping with Pete in the forth. She's a who-ah!

Yeah, I don't know why I always do that. I think because I used to know someone named Renne that everyone called "Nae."
But Jersey, with Pete it's just sex!
Remember when she first appeared on Gray's? This is not even remotely the same character.
I know, and I didn't it was that easy to be an ice princeess and a ho at the same time, but she nailed it (along with everyone else...)
Grey's has actually sparked my interest greatly again this season. There were too many bad moments last season, but I think they have redeemed themselves. There are more episodes I like than dislike. As long as most of the Mercy West people go away, which I know Jesse Williams has gotten picked up for next season, I think it will be in good shape. I don't like Meredith, Derek, or Lexie, but they are so minor in the big picture.
And yes, I still don't get the appeal of Private Practice, but yet the promos make it look so interesting. I need to learn that it isn't.

"Nothing interesting has occurred on the show for a very VERY long time."
I really like Kim Raver's character Teddy Altman. She's been a great addition to the cast. I also like Dr. Avery.
Is Teddy Altman the doctor who slept with that doctor or almost slept with that other doctor? Oh, who am I kidding? The show pretty much only has one character now. The doctor who has sex with a doctor and it rocks their world/ruins their life. The final nail in the coffin for me was finally giving Bailey the last-ditch story treatment and having her start up the affair with a fellow doctor. Now every character is on the exact same playing field and there is nothing interesting left unless they clean house and start over with a new show. Oh wait, they sort of did that with Private Practice. Never mind. The only method they have of perpetuating any story now is sex. At least in the beginning, we were surprised to see an occasional hook-up while the newbies try to fight their way through internship. Now, it's just bed-hopping and ER-esque superhuman life saving dramatics on occasion.
I didn't need to know anything about Bailey's 70s bush.
GREY'S ANATOMY is such a ridiculous show nowadays. Still, Heigl just came off like such a diva during this whole situation. Phyllis, she also complained on some talk show about the fact they made her work a 17 hour day...this of course after all the comments she made about the writers. She really just needed to leave that show.
I cannot take PRIVATE PRACTICE seriously, especially because I don't understand why they keep calling Kate Walsh's character Addison when that's so clearly not the same interesting character that started on GREY'S ANATOMY.
THE KILLERS looks pretty awful, I think, just a bad MR. AND MRS. SMITH. And how can Heigl complain about the sexual politics in KNOCKED UP (I agree with you, Phyllis, that movie's terrible in that sense) and then do THE UGLY TRUTH.
