"Is Teddy Altman the doctor who slept with that doctor or almost slept with that other doctor?"
She's Owen's ex-girlfriend who's now interested in Mark. She also considered Christina's mentor.
Heigl explains her daprture here"
"The plan was for you to return to the set on March 1 and stick around through the end of the season. But you didn’t show up on March 1. Why?
HEIGL: I went on my family leave and spent three months in Utah and just got to be a mom, and it changed my whole perspective… That was really the turning point for me. So before I was due back, I spoke again to Shonda about wanting to leave. Then I waited at home until I was given the formal okay that I was off the show. The rumors that I refused to return were totally untrue.
Would you describe it as an amicable parting?
HEIGL: Yeah, I think so. I think it was a little bit shocking for everybody, and a little bit like, “Can’t we find a way to work it out?” And I really wanted to, but at the same time I just felt like I couldn’t sacrifice my relationship with my child. Naleigh and I will always be a little bit complicated. I really had to work on bonding with her because I was obsessed with her, but she could really do without me. [Laughs] It was really hard because she loved Josh so much but she just kind of tolerated me. And I want this child to know that she will forever have me in her corner and I don’t want to disappoint her. [Fighting back tears] And even though I know I’m disappointing the fans, and I know I’m disappointing the writers and my fellow cast members and the crew, I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one. It sucks. You wish you could have it all exactly the way you want it. But that’s not life. I had to try to find the courage to move on. And I am sad. And I’m scared. But I felt it was the right thing to do; we just didn’t quite know how to do it appropriately, gracefully, and respectfully to the audience. And I think we all felt it wasn’t respectful to the audience to bring [Izzie] back again and then have her [leave] again. We did it twice this season. It starts to feel a little manipulative."

"Good riddance. I am tired of her yearly drama"
here here. i went off of her when she won her Emmy and made her speech. she of course had to make it clear that she worked hard for years before she got Grey's Anatomy (like many actors before they get their big break) and she just came off as cocky.
then when she pulled all this negotiations crap and had her holier than thou attitude about a lot of stuff it just got too much. i don't think she feels like she is biting the hand that feeds her either. once she won that award, she felt like she was the show. just my opinion of course, but i really don't like her.
she sort of gave up the plot too. not cool.
i have to admit though, i find her beautiful.
So she's brunette now?
... to prove that blands have more fun?
I completely respect her decision. It's her life and ultimately she chose what was right for her and was going to make her happy. She's got my respect. She doesn't owe anyone anything except to be a great mother to her daughter. She did her job and now she's decided to leave, nothing out of this world. I wish her the best and I will miss her on 'Grey's'.

We may not have seen the last of her. Although Katherine has left the series Alex and Izzie's relationship will have a proper closure in the upcoming season.

MAJOR BUMP, but she wants to come back and has already been reached out:
"I've told them I want to [return], she said. "I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she's doing now. My idea is that she actually, like, figures it out, and finds some success and does really well in a different hospital. She was always floundering, you know, and so she was always one step behind the eight ball and I want to see that girl take some power back."
'Grey's Anatomy': Katherine Heigl wants to return
You could see this coming a mile away. She thought she was bigger than the show, but after her movies flopped, she's crawling back to where she was successful.

^ She apparently wants to come back only for a guest visit.
She stated that leaving the show was not about her film career, but that she wanted to focus more on her family. She apparently couldn't do three things at once: being on television show full-time, do movies, and a raise a new child. But I think there are actors who are able to do that.

I hadn't realized GREY'S ANATOMY was even on TV anymore.

A source close to the show said it's not likely to happen.

Industry insiders say her film career is dead. The new movie looks like it will flop, and no one will hire her. She has a reputation for being "difficult".
Even after being dumped in January and not being screened for critics, One for the Money still managed to make 4 million on Friday. Clearly something about Heigl appeals to people.
The Stephanie Plum book series is hugely popular, so I imagine the movie is doing a lot of first-weekend business with those fans. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a sharp drop-off next weekend.
