"It's showtime, folks..."

The other day, I dusted off my DVD copy of "All That Jazz," which I haven't watched in quite some time. I was reminded of what a gem of a movie this is...

Ann Reinking is the most fabulous thing...those legs, and those eyes! And Roy Schieder was more than brilliant as the indulgent Joe Gideon.

What I had really forgotten was what a good dancer the little girl was - and how young John Lithgow was in this film.

This is my favorite movie - not what I think is the best ever made, but definitely my favorite. The dance sequences alone would seal the deal, but the acting is the glue that holds it all together. I cannot imagine it with Richard Dreyfuss at all.

"Take Off With Us" I think is one of the HOTTEST numbers and one of my favorites ever filmed.

I agree that dancing is hot, but it is not one of my all time favorites. While I think Schieder is brilliant, I think Reinking and Lange made this film before they honed their chops as actresses. They appear kind of stiff IMO. I didn't care for them at all. Overall, I love the film though.

What happened to that girl, Erzsebet Foldi? She was an amazing dancer in that film.

re: 'It's showtime, folks...'

Ann Reinking may not have the acting chops in this film, but you have to admit, her dancing is beyond compare.

Take Off With Us is my favorite "number" in the film. that and the one where Katy and Michelle do the dance in Joe's apartment.

And the one-liners...

"Stop smiling. It's not the high school play."

Hmmmm - love this movie.

I think I may put it on my "girls night" DVD playlist for the weekend.

"pretty pictures"

This is my all-time favorite movie. I can say that I have seen this movie over 100 times, easy. For me, it's all about the brilliance of Bob Fosse. Every time I see this movie, I find something I had not understood before...

DG, that line ("I don't know about the audiences, but I think it's the best work you've ever done - you son-of-a-bitch!") was the last one I finally figured out what it meant!

Leland's face when they hear "Take Off With Us" the first time cracks me up.

"Catchy! Bouncy!"

And then he makes "Airotica" out of it - unbelievable.

re: 'It's showtime, folks...'

I just love it as I realize all the parallels in his life represented in the movie...

DG... funny we quoted the same thing at the same time.

There is one thing to this day I do not understand in this movie... when they do the read-through, and everyone is laughing, except for Leland, and he goes into that surreal 'not there' mode. Never quite understood that.

Now you've all got me keyed up to see it again. "Everything old" is absolutely wonderful. I ran into Ann R. in the ladies room one day (no joke) and this was the first thing that came to my mind. That whole film was incredible.

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

Viewing party - come dressed as your favorite character! I for one, would like to see someone decked out in O'Connor Flood's glittering ensembles... re: 'It's showtime, folks...'

DD - When they do the read through, I always thought he was zoning out because he was becoming ill, on the verge of a heart attack, combined with a realization "this is my life..." it's all he does. He's burnt out completely, a read through isn't even interesting to him anymore...I could be wrong though.

I don't think there's a right or wrong... I just never quite understood it, but it makes sense.

Then, what about Audrey (Leland)? Why is she so disconnected from the read-through as well? Is she aware of him fading away?

I will totally bring the popcorn. And chololate martinis.
