Right Wing columnist Kathleen Parker repudiates her initial support of Governor Palin and agrees with her critics:
"Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.
No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted."

It's worse (Better?) than I thought: A BeliefNet blogger has turned against her too: "I am well and truly embarrassed for her. I think she's a good woman who might well be a great governor of Alaska. But good grief, just watch this train wreck!"
BeliefNet is one of the linchpins of the Christian Right; if they are starting to be dis-enchanted anything can happen. Of course, you can see in the reader's comments that most of the crowd is still defending her no matter what.

I wish I could reach that point.

I just made a comment on belief.net.
tee hee.
"oh, please. If Mr. Dreher would've been blindly praising the V.P candidate blindly like the rest of you all, you would have thanked him profusely for being an honest member of the media, one who is able to see through all the bull. But becuase he puts his country first by realizing that his candidate is not suited to hold the presidential office, you attack him and blame the media for everything going wrong with Sarah Palin.
Why don't you just open your eyes, and see the truth. See her for what she actually is; A very smart, charasmatic, confident woman who is not yet ready for the highest office in the U.S don't be blinded by religion, and the fact that she agrees with your anti-abortion and anti-homosexual stance.
She is simply wrong for this country on many levels, and I applaud Mr. Dreher for being able to go against his party's popular opinion, and think for himself, which you all should do. Think for yourself. Don't just vote for her because she shares your religion.
Honestly, take a look at that video, and really take a moment to determine if she is honestly ready to be PUSA much less the vice president. "

Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."

And they're not just giving up on Palin. Check out this op ed, "A Conservative for Obama" from Dallas. While I don't agree with everything he says, the point of view is certainly intriguing.
"Barack Obama is not my ideal candidate for president. (In fact, I made the maximum donation to John McCain during the primaries, when there was still hope he might come to his senses.) But I now see that Obama is almost the ideal candidate for this moment in American history. I disagree with him on many issues. But those don’t matter as much as what Obama offers, which is a deeply conservative view of the world. Nobody can read Obama’s books (which, it is worth noting, he wrote himself) or listen to him speak without realizing that this is a thoughtful, pragmatic, and prudent man. It gives me comfort just to think that after eight years of George W. Bush we will have a president who has actually read the Federalist Papers."

She and Bill are on a beer run.
I remember lots of talk after McCain picked her that Biden would come up with some excuse to drop out so Obama could get another candidate. Now I'm wondering if Palin will be the one who has a 'personal need' that makes it necessary for her to drop out. It would be a good move for everyone. Especially the country.

Rod Dreher (the columnist from BeliefNet) is also a columnist for the New York Post. If he's against her, she's a goner.
Choosing Palin was a slap in the face to the Fiscal Conservatives and the Foreign Policy Conservatives. It was designed to do one thing and one thing only: Drum up support among Religious Conservatives.
If that backfires, it's a Democratic landslide, especially with the public blaming the economy on the Republicans.
That animation may come true.

The Editor of the Nation review weighs in with her two cents:
If Sarah Palin is John McCain’s secret weapon, let her go, whoever is holding her back. And, frankly, if it turns out that the “authentic” Palin of rallies and the Republican convention is just good speech delivery in a woman with some good spirit, I want to know that sooner rather than later. (Mitt’s still available. Someone in Washington who can actually run a business and knows something about the economy will come in handy once the federal government owns the U.S. banking system.) But if the Palin we know and love and have projected our hopes for sanity in American politics is the real Sarah Palin — then come out from the shadows, woman. You’re the one who is going to win this election. Be yourself. Otherwise, what’s the point?
