This could be interesting

I have to say, the less Lucas involvement in a Star Wars film, the better.
Such an uninspired choice. I wanted creativity and imagination that was new than something I would find already in Star Trek.
And even among the uninspired choices, Joss Whedon runs circles around Abrams.
What Strummer said. Disappointing.
I would've liked a Guillermo Del Toro take on the Star Wars universe.
Maybe David Lynch will have a change of heart and reconsider after all these years

Ben Affleck (!!!!) and Matthew Vaughn were the other finalists and rumor was Vaughn wanted to build a franchise around Chloe Moretz and Abrams had Spielberg in his corner (neither of which surprises me).
will Giacchino do the score now? Cause that would be awesome
Bummer.

Oh I don't know. Abrams made a very entertaining fresh reboot of the STAR TREK franchise, maybe he'll do something with this one. And it has to be said that Abrams can't do any worse than Lucas already has.
I did enjoy Abrams' Star Trek as a fun sci-fi action flick which is far more appropriate for Star Wars than Star Trek. The only thing I didn't like about Star Trek was that he moved away from Star Treks's original conceit to turn it into a sci-fi action flick.

I also liked 'Star Trek' and I did enjoy 'Mission Impossible III' and 'Super 8' as well. We'll see how this turns out.
Well I was lukewarm at best to Star Trek and hated Super 8.
But I haven't heard anyone say Star Trek was anything but great so maybe I need to revisit that one.
The thing is that Star Trek reboot came off as a movie by a guy who really wanted to make a Star Wars film. That might sound great for Episode VII but for me it was weirdly retreading ground and taking notes from another franchise than really reviving the franchise he had.
Same with Super 8. It seemed more interested in following the notes to make a nice pastiche but I never felt like it earned those emotional tugs that were better earned in the Spielberg films it was playing from.
I was hoping that like with the Marvel studios acquisition by Disney that has led to them handing the keys comic book franchise films to really creative, original, niche directors like Joss Whedon (The Avengers), Edgar Wright (Ant-Man), Alan Taylor (Thor sequel), the Russo brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) that there was also going to be a choice in that vein for directing Star Wars.

Does not surprise me at all.
Harrison Ford Reportedly Confirmed To Return As Han Solo In ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’
I do not think they should bring back any of the original cast. I also think we hearing tons and tons of rumors. A script has not even been completed yet. Ford agreed to do a new film without even reading a script? I know he's not exactly getting the roles he use to get but I doubt Ford would be so quick to jump on this. Not saying I don't believe the story, just saying I'd wait til Ford,Disney, or Abrams officially say he is in.
Just last week we heard there was gonna be a stand alone film based on Han Solo,Yoda, and Boba Fett.Lawrence Kasdan who supposedly writing at least on of the scripts says he is hoping they start fresh with new characters. We're hearing way too much about Star Wars and I wonder how much of it is actual fact and how much is wishful thinking/thinking out loud. They need to get a script written,THEN cast it, start shooting and then start teasing the public with these little news bits about the story.
I don't think they should tempt fate.I love the original Star Wars trilogy and seeing the characters come back after being away for so long will just be sad,IMO.I like to remember them the way they were.

Well at least she does have to not worry about being a sex symbol anymore.

Are they all confirming before even reading a script? Is someone telling them their roles and the direction they are taking the series? Or, do they all just love and respect Abrams SO MUCH they are saying yes in advance? Wouldn't most actors prefer reading a script before committing? Then again, I'm sure all are happy to be in another blockbuster hit again.I hope they get Billy Dee back as well.

Scripts have obviously never been a priority at any point in this saga.
Except for The Empire Strikes Back.

J'agree.
Namo, you're luck Eriky just got you to agree, or I would have had to slap that lightsaber out of your mouth.
Why wouldn't the original cast members want to come back? It's a guaranteed massive hit and they don't have to deal with Lucas this go-around.

I love Empire Strikes Back. And actually, I was incomplete in my snark. I always just assumed Lucas got people on board by telling them the story, not showing actual scripts.
