I had high hopes for this movie but, sadly, this movie is really really really bad. It's nothing but a forced quirkiness bit of pop magic. Every character has some sort of strange tic or quirk that we're supposed to believe is charming and unique. The dialogue sounds like it was written "in the moment". It just sounds so fake and unrealistic.
Decent acting here and there but, overall, this movie is nothing special.
This make me even MORE excited to see the movie. If Cruel says this about it, I'm sure it's fantastic.

"It's nothing but a forced quirkiness bit of pop magic."
It seems I'm saying that about three out of four movies nowadays.
I'm still waiting for that Hollywood movie (or indie movie for that matter) where the young pretty lead gets pregnant and....HAS AN ABORTION AND HAS NO PROBLEM WITH IT.

there's no such thing as someone who has an abortion and has no problem with it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I like Michael Cera.

Hmmmm. A fan of INLAND EMPIRE and the Coen Brothers complains that JUNO is "nothing but a forced quirkiness bit of pop magic," etc.

That's because David Lynch has talent. Go back to watching Transformers, you postmodernist piece of s***.

The Village Voice critic, when subbing for Ebert, said he loved Transformers and that his fellow film snobs give him dirty looks for it, but he doesn't care. Plus he's handsome and sexy. I vote yes.
So it is kind of like Pushing Daisies?
yeah cruel hates it. that must mean its AMAZING. I definitely can't wait for Juno. Michael cera makes me touch myself.

Anybody who trots out the over-used word "amazing" and puts it in all caps deserves total dismissal himself.

I don't recall saying that David Lynch doesn't have talent. He certainly used to have talent, as ERASERHEAD and BLUE VELVET and assorted other works clearly demonstrate. On the other hand, nothing demonstrates the clear erosion of that talent so clearly as drivel like MULHOLLAND DRIVE and the unspeakable INLAND EMPIRE.
"post-modernist piece of s***"? Goodness, such language.

Arts and leisure has an article on the screenwriter in this weekend's section. I thought the trailer made it checkoutable.
I agree that it was nothing special, but it wasn't that bad.

Just won the free screening tix from Time Out NY. I'll check it out tomorrow.
I'm still stuck on the "there is no such thing as a person who has an abortion and has no problem with it".
And so as not to hijack this thread, I am starting a new one where anyone who wants to can discuss this tangential topic:
Early pregnancy is so physically discreet, that the significance, in my opinion, attached to is determined by one's circumstances. Have born and raised children, the 12 week pregnancy (and yes I miscarried once around that time) dashed the anticipation of a child that might have come to be, but a three month fetus is merely a potential human being. One can imbue it with a name, and a personality, and love...but physically, it's still a clump of proliferating cells. With amazing potential, but they "ain't no baby".
I know that miscarriages and abortions are traumatic under many circumstances. I also know that frequently, they are a big fat relief.
Do I think people should use abortion as birth control? No. Do I favor non-medically necessary late term abortions? Nope. (But I also believe that the ones that ARE done ARE medically necessary.
It's nothing but a forced quirkiness bit of pop magic. Every character has some sort of strange tic or quirk that we're supposed to believe is charming and unique. The dialogue sounds like it was written "in the moment". It just sounds so fake and unrealistic.
That is the perfect review of The Royal Tenenbaums.
