Was she justified in doing what she did during the Vietnam War?
Is she now truly sorry or just trying to sell books?

Posted: 4/6/05 at 10:30pmI believe her. And not just because she's hot.

Posted: 4/6/05 at 10:31pmRath has a point there---she is quite the hottie. Ted Turner was out of his mind cheating on her.

As Bob Kerry learned (The hard way) there is no way to ever apologize for anything you did protesting the Vietnam War. Draft dodging is OK, Using Dad's connections to not serve in the National Guard is fine, running to Canada is even OK but any actions taken to protest a war that EVERYONE agrees (now) was a horrible mistake and should never been fought are all unforgivable.
Jane Fonda should have never gone to VietNam. Nothing will ever change anyone's mind about it. I think it's nice of her to admit she was wrong, but again, it will change no minds.
And as always Rath your taste is IMPECCABLE! Too bad she used up all her experimenting when you were 8.

Love me some Jane Fonda. I got to know her pretty well when I was cast in Barefoot in the Park last summer as an emergency replacement and had to learn my lines in 5 days.

Posted: 4/6/05 at 11:25pmI had a Jane Fonda moment just two hours ago! I saw the On Golden Pond revival, and although James Earl Jones and Leslie Uggams are terrific, it's impossible not to recall Jane Fonda working out therapy issues with her father on screen. She cries, she gets mad, she yells--and it's all REAL, yet they're not Jane and Henry, they're Chelsea and Norman. What a mind trip!

Love Jane Fonda. She did what she did to expose and bring attention to the lies the government was feeding the people in order to justify an unjust war. Ahhhhh... the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Welcome back Jane. You look sensational. (Hard to believe she's 67!) Can't wait to see Monster-In-Law. The trailer is hilarious!

Goth - I think that every two minute duration decision that a twenty-something makes should brand them for the rest of their lives. Please submit your bigraphy for inspection immediately.
In other words, whether or not it is 'forgivegivable' shouldn't be a question that 'Christians' ask.

It doesn't bother me that she went. It was an undeclared war that the vast majority of America was against.
I respect her for going.
I do NOT respect her for sitting on guns that killed Americans. That was a major mistake in judgement.

Posted: 4/7/05 at 2:42amIt makes me sad and angry that still today, people who protested the Viet Nam War are considered somehow unpatriotic. Jane Fonda definitely crossed the line when she went to North Viet Nam (way over the line, and an apology was needed) but John Kerry's case illustrates that dissent is still considered unpatriotic by much too many Americans.

DGrant, I haven't given an opinion, just merely asked a question. You need to stop the animosity and personal attacks against me!!

Call me quirky, but I'm amused seeing a post from someone whose screen name is "everythingisrent" -- theoretically a RENT devotee -- rant against Jane Fonda of all people ("unforgivable").
What do you think those RENT characters you cherish -- who stick it to the establishment at every turn -- would say about the firebrand Jane? Uh, I don't think they'd dis her. Forgive her? I'd bet on it. (Listen to "La Vie Boheme" -- which mentions "Sontag," an even more controversial gal that Jane.)

Awesome point Auggie!!
And on the Golden Pond tip-- Jane bought the rights to the film and set the whole thing up. I always wished I could have seen Jane bring that script home and say "I've got this film where you play a cold & distant Dad to my rebellious & needy daughter--do you think we could play those parts?"

This is out of my age range....but WHAT EXACTLY did Jane Fonda do that was so bad?????? I know she was against the Vietnam War, and I don't see anything wrong with that(but that's from my perspective...I probably didn't know about the war until the early 1990's). My mom said something about, that she called the soldiers bad names....the same people who went to her movies, who mostly like all got drafted and HAD to go, or else lose their rights as a citizen(doesn't something like that happen if you do???????). I didn't see anything wrong about people being against the "war" in 2003 and so on.
I want to know what she did that was so bad??????
