This movie was quite a surprise, I went to see it with someone Im dating and we both had a wonderful time.
The beginning is pretty cheesy, but then it gets better and better.
Jane Fonda is terrific in it. Lindsay Lohan seems concerned about her appeareance waaay too much, but her acting is passable. Felicity Huffman does a good job too, for w/e reason I keep thinking about her as a transgender, since I never watch her TV show and only saw Transamerica with her. Dermot Mulroney is terrific as usual, great cast overall, really good kid actors.
I've heard from many, many people to avoid this movie like the plague. And for some of the ones who told me, it sometimes seems impossible for them to see a movie they think is bad.
Apparently, not only is it bad, but it tries to get laughs out of things that should not be exploited for comedy.
My younger sister loves pretty much every movie she sees, and she absolutely abhored this film.
From what I've heard about the film, Garry Marshall seems to think that child-rape is a laughing matter.
Mrs R & her mother saw it & loved it
I asked Mrs R about the child rape matter & she said it was handled very well if not a little too long. She went in also thinking she would hate it.
MMMmmm
nope, no raping jokes, there are some funny parts involving sexual acts though, but not about raping.
The thing about it, well, I don't want to spoil it, but if you want to PM me, I will be glad to explain you what happens, which can be somehow offensive, but I don't think it really is.
After I heard so many people telling me it was bad, I read a lot of the reviews. They all seemed to come to the consensus that the film handles the delicate issues horrendously and with no emotional honesty.
I read some really bad reviews on the newspaper too, but I don't rely on reviews exclusively.
One friend saw it and said it was "amazing", and me and my friend thought it was very good. Anyways, I really think you should see it for yourself and form your own opinion since it seems like you were interested enough to read the reviews.

Well, you're the grand one
Have you noticed?
When you walk in all the fairy boys are very nervous
Well, my starship doesn't want me
And neither does his world
I'm glad I caught you on my view screen, sailor
I used to like Lindsay Lohan in her films. I hated her in this one. She DID seem way to concerned with how she looked. And it does take away from her performance. I have certainly seen her do better.
Jane Fonda was good, but I usually love her.
Overall, it was too...trying-to-be-funny-but-not-quite-there.....I didn't care for it.
I noticed the same thing about Lindsay, but that's really not her own fault, the director should have told her "you have been on the highway for 2 hours, you cannot be wearing lipgloss", although she did have her purse with her, so it's debatable.
Anyways, SticktoPriest, I remembered that Jane Fonda is a feminist, do you think she would accept to be in a movie that involves making fun of women getting raped?
I think that your sister didn't really get some parts of the movie, which is understandable, because it confuses you with mixed messages. All comes full circle at the end, though.
Haven't seen this yet, but have heard many positive things about Fonda and Lohan.
The whole cast is strong, but their material is just so awfully weak. A terrible plot, a terrible script.
I found the movie enjoyable - but it's definitely not very good.
It's not a good movie. Not what I was expecting AT ALL and I can see the basis for the horrible reviews, but I didn't totally hate it. And Lindsay Lohan has the potential to be quite a good actress, so it sucks that she's willing to just throw it away. In this, though? She's basically playing herself.
Yes, Lohan is totally playing herself.
The Times basically pronounced it an interesting mess, pointing out that the disparate elements made it more compelling, not less so. Sometimes the "mess" movies end up the ones we enjoy dipping into repeatedly, once they land on cable and are show ad nauseum. Over the years I've found these oddball "mess" movies memorable for mysterious reasons.
One springs to mind: Julia Roberts' MONA LISA SMILE, enjoyable because ... despite an obvious rewrite ... it ain't a Julia Roberts movie. I can never turn the damned thing off when it's on (the Racel Portman score recycling CIDER HOUSE RULES motifs ... the 50s details, Marcia Gay H. as a frustrated spinster addicted to game shows). Perhaps GEORGIA will become just that kind of guilty pleasure. Of course, these messes are often what used to be called "A Woman's Picture."
They let Garry Marshall direct another film after EXIT TO EDEN???
