The difference between Phelps and Falwell was that Phelps has no following apart from his own family.

Falwell influenced millions of Christians who did what he told them to do.

Phelps is a nobody.

However we all should keep in mind that his family just lost someone very close to them and when you lose a loved one it is the worse feeling and I would never would wish that kind of pain on anyone. So I am sad that his family is in mourning.

Billygoatgirl--how sad were you when Falwell wished that my best friend Reed Jones, who played Skimbleshanks in Cats on Broadway would go to HELL because AIDS was God's retribution on gays?

How sad were you when Reed died? As sad as you are now?

PalJoey, I am very sorry for the loss of your friend, maybe you misread my daughter's post.
The fact Mr Falwell disrespected his grave is horrid.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

Billygoat, how do I give atheists a bad name? I felt there was an chastisment on this thread that "it is a terrible thing to speak ill of the dead. Let the Lord judge him when he gets to the hereafter. Shame on you for not respecting his life." I think that is a crock and said so. As far as "attacking" your mother, I did no such thing. I only expressed my opinion. She is entitled to hers. But, if bad things happen to people I love the last thing I will think is "Oh, I should never have said that about Jerry Falwell, I put a curse on my friend and it is all my fault." He was a horrible human being and I am glad he is dead. I only wish it had happened about 25 years sooner.
PEACE.

Joey- If you go back and read my post, I never said that I was sad that that he died. I said I was sad that his family are in mouring. I feel bad for his family and friends that's it.

As I said I never agreed with him on anything because he preached hate toward anyone that didn't belive what he belived. I'm sure he would hate me because I'm pro-choice and I belive in women's rights.

I saw this button once and it reminds me of people like Fallwell. Here's what it said "Jesus called, He wants he religion back"

Joey I am sorry about the death of your friend. Just so you know I am much sadder that he died ( or anyone with AIDS or with other dieases for that matter) Falewell. Looking at that picture of him I can tell his was an amazing human being and shouldn't have died so young.

As for Falwell spitting on his grave? That is sick and horrible thing to do. I'm not to sure where I should start on that.

The towel waving reminded me of a Per?nist rally. I kept chanting "Evita!" whenever they'd pan to the crowds. - SM2

Sadly, there are others like him still with him. "Doctor" Dobson is on "Larry King" right now saying how wonderful Falwell is. Dobson is saying Falwell was "skewered by the media" and they "did a number on him" and "tried to make him look like a clown". He made himself look like a clown without any help. And now Larry is saying he disagreed with the "reverend" but he was hard to hate.

I was shocked to find that CNN was running continuous coverage on this and not Fox News... then I realized, Fox News is televising the Republican debate.

Tammy Faye called into the Larry King Show tonight. She sounded very weak but she said she regrets that she did not get the chance to tell Falwell that she forgave him. She is a class act and will be missed when she passes.

Let's not forget, that image-rehabilitating Eyes of Tammy Faye documentary notwithstanding, she was in fact the chipper overly painted face of the ministry that scammed LOTS of lower middle-class and working poor families out of their meager savings to by non-exisent time shares at their theme park. A con person is a con person is a con person.
