Interestingly, part of what worked so well when she was on GH was that she was the anti-soap actor - didn't have the perfectly trained voice, the perfect face/body - she was just a great actor who tore up the scenery. The young woman who replaced her (and it took the producers two years to dare to try that) IS the epitome of soap actor - perfect all the way around. I can't stand her. Bores me to tears.
She certainly seems unafraid to appear as unlikeable, which I love.
She is completely fearless as an actor. My speculation has been from early on that Joan will just be a stepping-stone to a major feature film career.
Without a doubt, I would say. Christopher Marquette is going places, too.
Everyone on that show, with the exception of that annoying caricature tall blonde with glasses geek girl (how in God's name did she get cast - she's awful), is amazing.
And how did she end up in Spider-Man 2?
this is one of my all time favorite tv shows...i love amber t.
she is a very talented actress...but, her best friend on the show (that punk girl) is like 40..
Well, she's 30, but I am happy to overlook that. Grace Polk is a character that is wonderfully conflicted, expertly written and flawlessly played.
She does an amazing job of convincing us that she is the same age as the others. Amber's not exactly in high school either, although quite a bit closer...

To me, the girls on the show look exactly like the high school girls who take drama classes and work as ushers at my theatre. The boys look the right age too.
Now, remember Beverly Hills 90210, with Luke Perry and Ian Ziering going bald in hight school? And Gabrielle Charteris, who was like 30 and looked every day of it?
The only actor on 90210 who was the actual age of their character was Tori Spelling.
7 hours!!!! I'm trembling with anticipation!!!! wooooooo!!!

Tori Spelling... God I hate her.
I remember many years ago, when I was in the Navy the guys would be all gathered round to watch 90210. DUring the theme song we would cheer for Jenny Garth, Shannen Dotherly, and the chick with glasses. Then we would all boo and yell "you ugly, fake-boobed, talentless, virgin bitch!"
Poor Tori. As it turns out, she's not bad at all, especially with comedy. She was quite underrated and continues to be, because of her name. She was admittedly not so great the first season of the show, but after that she stepped up and was right up there with the rest of them.
But, just as Neil Patrick Harris will always be referred to as Doogie, Tori Spelling will never escape the stigma of her surname or how she got her start.
Season 2 of Joan is on very soon. Please post your thoughts on here when it's over (but try and avoid spoilers for those of us who have to wait).
does anyone know if they have plans to produce a JOA dvd collection?
It won't be for a while. I was reading up on this and the network that show Joan (and I am having a mental block and can't remember which one it is, sue me), are the slowest at bringing out DVD box sets of their shows. So they may well show up on DVD eventually but it won't be for a good few years. Boo hiss.
darn you cbs! wasn't "my big fat greek life" on cbs? it was released on dvd like, a month after it went of the air. was anyone else into fox's "wonderfalls" before it was ruthlessly ripped from programming? it's going to be on dvd very soon.

Bumpity bump this thread to the top!
What a frustrating, unsatisfying premiere! Nothing was resolved - they seem to be going for a cliffhanger thing.
I dug the ex-nun, though. She was the one good thing abou that awful sitcom "Good Morning, Miami" or whatever it was called.
Maybe unsatisfying premieres are all the rage this season. Friends of mine tell me that ER sucked like an electrolux.
Obviously the episode had to begin to address what happened in the season finale, so it was a bit different than we're used to. I wasn't disappointed at all.

My personal views on religion had caused me to avoid this show. However, because of the things that were said about it here, we decided to give it a try. What we have found is wonderful performances of passionate writing - and thoughtful consideration of issues that affect us all.
So, thank you for bringing this to our attention, and may the cast and crew continue to engage themselves and us with their art.

I missed a few episodes. Can somebody fill me in on who the new girl is?

The new girl is a girl Joan met when she was at the sanitarium/camp where she spent the summer, "Gentle Acres" (or "Mental Acres" as they jokingly call it). On an earlier episode, she went to a party and nearly drank herself to death.
