I think she'd say that it in no way means she's gay or that it means she's not gay. It's about Hollywood, old and new and acceptance of, well, movies. Movies about love and about relationships that are based on trust and loyalty and that's the one thing that can be said about this news is that she trusts that people will love and accept everyone no matter what movies they love and she would like to take this time to make an announcement - that she is currently reading scripts and considering what film to do next.

There was a lot of controversy about that weird little speech, and it has to be noted that she never once actually says that she's gay. She does credit Mel Gibson with being her bestest buddy, though.

Only 10 out-of-the-closet lesbians, yes. Now if you counted the closeted ones married to gay or asexual men simply to carry on their appearance and have some children, the list probably goes up by 20 or 30...

FWIW, I went to school with Foster's new wife, Ms. Hedison. (She was an undergrad and I was returning to grad school; she's 15 years younger than I.) We worked on several shows together and were casual friends.
I haven't seen Alex in 20 years, but she is a very talented, extremely brilliant and beautiful woman. I hope she and Foster are very happy together!
ETA Oh, and though she's known as a photographer now, she is a highly skilled and moving actress. So I doubt her stint on THE L WORD was due to a shortage of lesbians in Hollywood. LOL.

I thought she was pretty terrible on The L Word, but that might just be because she was wholly unconvincing as a straight girl. My joke about the lack of lesbians in Hollywood was more about her former relationship with Ellen. She goes for the A-list gals.

No but really- when you think of how screwed up most child stars grow up to be and toss in the films that she's been in and the fans that sort of thing attracts and then Hinckley on top of all that- good lord just having SONDHEIM write a song about me would send me over the brink.

This woman has been working since she was a child, thrust in the limelight by playing a teenaged hooker, tried to go to college for some normalcy, then got swept up in the Hinkley/Reagan drama. If she's a tad neurotic, she's doing better than most. Linda Blair? Tatum O'Neal?
