All right, I read this, and while I do think their marriage was long overdue for a divorce, I don't get how it keeps saying he beat her without any detail, then lays out that SHE used to physically assault HIM as well.
There's a certain point in all this where I've stopped feeling any pity for her at all, and I think they are both a pair of douchebags.

I'm sorry but I feel that the National Enquirer has a long way to go before anyone can actually take it seriously as a legitimate publication that has reliable information.

It doesn't, though. Once they started getting hit with bona fide libel suits they really started operating on the up and up, at least in a non-libelous manner. They haven't shook their bad reputation (nor I am sure they SHOULD), but they are, for better for worse, an actual source with credibility.

Please, they've been three steps ahead of the MSM on the Edwards story the whole way.

Yet Andrew Young still manages to make this a race for the creepiest guy in this story.

The Enquirer has been right about everything they claimed with the John Edwards scandal so far. They even asked John to comment about the beating charge he refused. Normally John just denies it and lies and then months later when he discovers there is too much proof contradicting his claims, then will admit it. They were also right about the Rush Limbaugh drug scandal, which turned out to be 100% accurate. They are slowly gaining some credibility and that's the irony. A supermarket tabloid is doing what the MSM should be doing and late night comedy news shows are reporting more accurate news stories than the major network news is.

Elizabeth is no saint either if the article is true.

I agree. I do feel some sympathy for her but never forget this. Once she learned about the affair she at the time could have asked John to NOT RUN and she ignored that and sat back and allowed him to run, knowing he had this affair. What would have happened if he won the nomination? Sarah Palin would be our vice president right now and John Edwards would have been responsible.Elizabeth sounds like a real bitch and I know she has cancer and is fighting the fight and my heart goes out to her in that respect but I think she, like her husband, saw the power and sold her soul for the chance of becoming 1st lady. She knew the kind of man her husband was and did not care about the people of the USA. Instead she put power over principal.

I cannot WAIT to read Game Change.
And I cannot WAIT to play Elizabeth Edwards in the all-but-certain Fringe Festival extravaganza based on the whole sordid affair.
And as for sympathy for her...well...you know what they say. Even c*nts get cancer.

What I gleaned from that piece is the tale of a woman desperately in love with a man who wanted some strange.

Namo,
Somehow I see the sordid Edwards family business as a typical ole south ritual. There's a good chance she's been taught by her family and circle of friends to "strand by her man". They met in law school as I understand it.
She probably never envisioned herself becoming a US Senator or POTUS, as he probably never encouraged it due to his own sense of "entitlement". Her whole adult existence has been that of a "do right woman" supporting her husband and raising their kids to honor "him". Perhaps, in her own my mind she feels responsible for his indiscretions because many older southerners inevitably blame the lil' lady for a family's demise.
Finally, regarding "the other woman", enterprising women have been throwing panties at male authority figures who like snatch since time immemorial. How many themes and variations do we have to suffer before it's clear to all that these folks are hopelessly human? One could argue that theirs is a cautionary tale for an increasingly deluded American public.

I read the book. OK, technically I LISTENED to the audiobook. What occurred to me is how easily Elizabeth Edwards was trashed and blamed. I dunno, maybe she IS evil incarnate. Or maybe she is a woman whose reaction to her husband's blatant infidelity combined with her own cancer diagnosis and treatment was magnified by the pressure of having it all so public. I'm not saying her behavior, as described, was admirable. I'm just saying I understand some of it.
As for the good MR Edwards. I have no kindness or understanding to cast in his direction. Arrogant pig.

Or maybe they're ALL a bunch of c*nts! I mean...it's possible.
I've been deriving a great deal of pleasure lately from the scandals of the rich and famous. It's been tickling me to no end.
WAIT.
I'm the c*nt!
