Normally, I don't tend to notice or care when a celebrity makes a drastic change, nonetheless create a post about it. But this time, it's a bit different. John Goodman is one of the best (and most underrated) actors, in my opinion, and I'm extremely happy to hear about this:

I was sincerely worried about him in past years because he just looked so unbelievably unhealthy. I feared that at some point, we'd hear...well...you get the idea.
Seriously, this is unbelievably awesome.
He is sooo underated. thank you for posting this Cruel.
His performance in The Big Lebowski is a classic. One of the funniest I have ever seen.

Check out BARTON FINK. F***ing incredible in that film.
"I'LL SHOW YOU THE LIFE OF THE MIND!"
I've seen Barton. But Lebowski is one of my favorites.
When he busts out that he can't come get Jeff Daniels b/c it's erev shabbos I pee myself. Every time!

Good for him! And he did it the right way instead of going for a quick fix like a stomach staple! good job John!
This is great to hear. I was worried about him as well, especially after seeing how large he had gotten on his recent appearance on "Studio 60". I'm happy he's on the path of self-improvement. I also agree he would make a wonderful Edna.
Never a weak performance--he got robbed of a nom for BARTON and for LEBOWSKI..also great in RAISING ARIZONA....Too bad he's too old to play Ignatius in CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES...

We saw him recently as Big Daddy in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. His acting choices were truly wonderful, but we were honestly afraid we were going to see him die of a heart attack right in front of our eyes. I'm very happy to hear he's taken this step, as I really would like to see him able to do more work.

Maggie - Jennifer Mudge
Brick - Jeremy Davidson
Dixie - Zoe Photenhauer
Mae - Kirsten Potter
Gooper - Matthew Glave
Big Mama - Brenda Fricker
Sookey - Sonya Eddy
Big Daddy - John Goodman
Reverend Tooker - William Dennis Hunt
Dr. Baugh - Gibby Brand
This was at the Geffen. It wasn't overly well received, mostly because of antipathy toward the young leads (although, their Brick did have some redeaming qualities
)
Their production of ALL MY SONS with a transcendent Laurie Metcalfe played much better.

Good for him ... I began to get very worried around the time that Pixar's Monsters Inc came out; he looked a lot more un-healthy. Being like that can also affect ones speaking, which I definitely noticed with him ... I'm glad he got some help.
John Goodman has always been an "extremely" underestimated actor ... he is truly one of the best out there; one could venture to say one of the all-time greats.
Little Jeremy Davidson?
I bet Brenda Fricker was great--of course, everyt ime I look at her all I can hear is "You're a right sexy bastard, you know that?"
OMG lil, he would make a GREAT ignatius!
He's just too old now--unless you got Rue to play his mama.

i really want to see him in another coen movie.
That's great to hear. He has always been one of my favorite actors, and I too have been worried about him for a while. Him and Richard Griffiths.

I was actually watching The Jungle Book right when I saw this thread.
This is great news. He's brilliant whenever he is on SNL.
How ironic-his career never took off until he gained lots of weight. Here's hoping he's proven himself through his past work to insure that he'll keep on getting great roles, even as a thin guy! He's great.
Great for him. Like Joekv already said, I'm happy to see that he did it in a healthy manner.
And I'm also a huge fan of the Flintstones movie.
