We don't do that with the President though. We let him be the moron he is.

What does a discussion about Kerry's stupid mistake have to do with George Bush? Why must every thread be about him? Saying George Bush says stupid things isn't even interesting. It's not even yesterday's news, anymore. Who doesn't know that?

Well, Bush's intention is to show that he is capable and his context is stupidity. It makes for a wonderful ironic tapestry.

To be fair, Bush rarely comes out to say what his intention was when he blunders, so we can assume based on context alone -- which often leads us to pretty alarming conclusions. I suppose he must know that he blunders so often that he would spend his career reframing. And that would cost him precious vacation time.

Only to prove, that there are two-sides to the coin. When the Democrats misspeak, the Republicans jump on it with both feet, and vice-versa. So I feel it's perfectly legitimate to point out that Kerry is not the only politician who has ever gotten his words twisted.

exactly. this should be about why senator kerry has called for anyone who doesn't have an almost transparent knowledge of his soul to be skinned alive and fed still creaming (*edit* i know, i left off the "s", but it adds something don't it?) to the giant komodo dragons he and his true love nancy pelosi jointly own under the assumed names capt. & mrs. america at their lovenest in p-town.

I understood it as:

when you don't do well in school, you limit your opportunities and then are more likely to be recruited to "have a future"

let's face it, when the army recruiters come into a high school, they aren't targeting the jocks and over achievers. They used to set up in the cafeteria at my school and pretty much target the "outcasts" tables.

Go, Kerry Go!!

"I think Americans are sick and tired of this game. These Republicans are afraid to stand up and debate a real veteran on this topic. And they're afraid to debate -- you know, they want to debate straw men because they're afraid to debate real men. Well, we're going to have a real debate in this country about this policy. The bottom line is: These Republicans want to distort this policy. And, this time, it won't work because we are going to stay in their face with the truth. No Democrat is going to be bullied by these people, by these kinds of attacks that have no place in American politics. It's time to set our policy correct. They have a stand-still-and-lose policy in Iraq, and they have a cut-and-run policy in Afghanistan. And the fact is, our troops, who have served heroically, who deserve better, deserve leadership that is up to their sacrifice -- period."

Asked about John McCain's criticisms of his remarks, Kerry said that McCain knows what he really meant. "John McCain ought to ask for an apology from Dick Cheney for misleading America," he said. "He ought to ask for an apology from the president for lying about the nuclear program in Africa. He ought to ask for an apology for once again a week ago referring to al-Qaida as being the central problem in Iraq, when al-Qaida is not the central problem. Enough is enough. I'm not going to stand for these people trying to shift the topic and make it politics. America deserves a real discussion about real policy. And that's what this election is going to be about next Tuesday."

Minutes after Kerry's staff circulated a transcript of his press conference, the Republican National Committee responded with a blast e-mail under its "America Weakly" banner. The headline: "Kerry Apologizes to No One: 2004 Dem Presidential Nominee John Kerry Refuses To Apologize For Belittling U.S. Troops."

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

-papalovesmambo

Is it more insulting than sending them to war without a plan. any plan?
Is it more insulting than paying soldiers a fraction of what independent contractors are getting paid for the same job?

Is it more insulting than not providing medical insurance for reservists returning from war?

Yeah, excuse me, but I'm sick of all this "outrage" over words used to "insult" our fighting men and women.

The biggest "insult" to an America soldier is sending him on an unwinble mission, where he's merely picked off like an off-duty cop on a crime-ravaged Baghdad street.

The ultimate insult is an indifference to their every increasing deaths, which we see every time Rumsfeld, Cheney, or the ever-smirking Bush stands in front of a camera to talk about "fighting them over there" instead of "here." Sectarian violence in Iraq is a threat to Anytown, USA?

Yeah, those warring Sunni and Shia are gonna jump on a 747 and come over here and fight each other in our streets, W. That's what those 2,800 plus soldiers have died for? To keep a civil war off Fifth Avenue or Melrose Place? Where is the outrage?

George Bush LIED to get us into a war, then INSULTED the troops by UNDEREQUIPPING them, MISMANAGING the strategy and TURNING HIS CHICKEN-HAWK BACK on their coffins and limbless bodies when they returned.

THAT's "insulting the troops"!

Kerry was talking about soldiers, and I think his disdain for them is so deeply ingrained he probably didn't see anything wrong in what he said until it blew up. Kerry's "context" is everything he's said about the American military before, beginning with Vietnam. So he's not apologizing to anyone? Fine! It wouldn't exactly be from the heart, would it - so why would an American soldier care to hear it?

The John Kerry nonsense
by kos

Man, there are times when this stuff is more ridiculous than anything a fiction writer or satirist could ever dream up.

So John Kerry mangles a sentence in a public appearance, and the right-wing smear machine and its traditional media enablers are apoplectic. I mean, John Kerry is a, um, junior senator not running for reelection! And he's, um, a war hero who hates the troops! And um, we hate him because he's John Kerry!

Trust me, I haven't been shy to pile on Kerry when warranted, but what a load of bull**** this is. And showing that he has learned from his Swiftboating days, Kerry hit back hard....

If Republicans want to debate who supports the troops more, let's have that debate. I'd love to talk about nothing else than Iraq for the next week.

And for the rest of you who think this is the end of the world -- stop being afraid of your own shadow. Just stop it. Fight or get out of the kitchen. It will get hotter than even this.

First off, I'm not surprised because Kerry's a democrat. Secondly, I believe the only way you get called for active duty is if you sign up for the Army.

If this is the best the Karl and Company can come up with one week before the election, it may be a sweep.

This is seriously one of the most stupid non issues that I have ever seen! Look at the clip - he freaking misspoke!

Bush looked like an idiot - "plenty smart"? The President of the United States speaks with such sophomoric phrases?
