Sueleen--0what did Ellen Travolta say? I do think there's obviously something to this-- But I'm more with Theatre Diva here (and while sexual harassment or worse is no laughing matter, I have a hard time thinking a masseuse who does apparently private appointments at people's houses hasn't had to dea with worse and not thought to sue).

I don't think there's any question that he is gay, but I am very torn about the need for him to publicly acknowledge it. I think by keeping it hidden he runs more risk of people making claims like this, which I believe are completely inaccurate. I don't know the man, but he just seems to be way too protective of his alleged sexual identity to fondle two different masseurs that he didn't know like this. And with the first, he wasn't even on the same side of the country at the alleged time of the fondle.

I don't think his forced outing would do any good for anyone, really. It would be somewhat insulting to his wife and children as people would assume it's a sham. I do believe that he can be 100% gay and still love Kelly very much, though I have no idea if that's the case. He obviously adores his children. He can't come out publicly without turning from his "church" which is the cornerstone of his marriage and everything he claims to believe in. That said, I eat up stories like this, so like I said... I am very torn. I do think he's a bit of a jackass for never publicly admitting that his son had autism until after he died and only then when forced during testimony. He could have done a LOT for families struggling with children with autism.

Part of me wants a celebrity to have every single right to protect their privacy and refuse to make a big deal out of it. The other part of me wants beloved celebrities to come out so it's easier to say, "See?! You have always love her/him/them and they've always been gay." Eh. I don't know.

If John Travolta were simply a 'confirmed bachelor,' I'd be fine with saying, 'Sure...be private...wish you would come out, but whatevs.'

But that's not this. He has been lying publicly for decades. It's insulting. And it's kind of vile. And I'm not in the least surprised that repressing it in public for so long would lead to making reckless choices. I mean...hasn't the Republican party of the last few years taught us that?

Now...I'm going to put on my foil hat and get all conspiracy theory. This is all coming from the Church of Scientology. The reports of Travolta's disillusionment with the Church after the death of his son are true and he wants to leave. So the Church is going scortched earth and forcing his hand. Stay and the allegations go away. Or leave and we will destroy you.

Do you really think this will 'DESTROY' him? I think he will be fine even if the allegations are true. He will drift into the final stages of his career doing interesting roles in independent films and this will become a forgotten footnote. That is if he actually acknowledges the fact that he is indeed gay and was kept in the closet by that ****ing cult.

Oh, God, of course not. But that's the threat...and that must be his belief, right? That coming out would destroy...something.

I tend to think that if he came out and did, in fact, take the route, the man would end up with an Oscar at some point. I always forget how good of an actor he can be because the Scientology/gay rumors/pilot SH*T seems to drown that out.

As others have implied, he's at a stage in his career where I don't think coming out would kill it. Frankly, after his comeback, he's no longer the box office draw once again and it actually could be savvy to reboot his career with a different image. He's what--around 60?

I think it depends on the situation still, unfortunately. At this stage, except for family films, if John wanted to do serious movies again he could benefit.

Then you have the ridiculous current situation with Luke EVans (The Raven, Immortals, etc) whose agent (or himself) seems keen on making a Big Star. He was insanely out when he was a West End theatre (semi)star, even doing interviews talking about what kind of sex and porn he liked, etc. But now that he's gone Hollywood it's all about linking him to women and "no comment"ing--his publicist doesn't seem to realize that most of his old interviews are still online. It's given me an idea for a pitch meeting, you should 'scuse the expression: a bittersweet love story between two 57 year old men, Danny Zucco and Tony Manero, who meet one cloudy December Day at Disneyland, both grieving individual losses (back stories available via Netflix), and end up going to an Anaheim AA meeting after a tumultuous day weeping on Pirates of the Caribbean, and falling into bed together. Like PARENT TRAP, it allows a bravura star turn for one actor in two roles.
