At Sundance with John Waters: So Cute, Those Gay Cowboys
January 22, 2006
By Anne Thompson
Loved watching the always dapper John Waters work the press line outside the Queer Lounge Brunch today. (We bonded on the 2002 Sundance dramatic jury.) He's in Park City promoting his 13-episode John Waters Presents Movies That Will Corrupt You film series for the gay cable channel Here! Each episode he opens the door into his Baltimore home and invites you in to watch one of his favorite movies, from Who Killed Pasolini? and Irreversible to Porn Theater.
When asked if Brokeback Mountain was a gay movie, he replied, "It's a good gay movie. It's probably the most positive gay movie ever made. The right wing is correct: It's a great recruitment tool. I've never seen any gay cowboys that were that cute."
So Cute, Those Gay Cowboys
a gay friend of mine has dubbed it THE GAY WE WERE.
So...
How long before Tim Wildmon, Joseph Farah and Agape Press put out a news release that goes something like this?
Homosexual director: Homosexual film is 'great recruitment tool'
Homosexual director John Waters, who has a long list of films full of vulgarity, obscenity and promotion of the homosexual lifestyle, today admitted that the homosexual film "Brokeback Mountain" is a tool to bring others into that lifestyle.
"It's probably the most positive gay movie ever made," Waters said. "The right wing is correct: It's a great recruitment tool."
The film, which depicts two cowboys who destroy their own marriages because of their sinful lust for one another, recently won several Golden Globes and is considered a top contender at Oscar time.
