re: Jon Hamm on SNL

Supportivemom, I've waited 4 years, so don't be jealous at all! I have a couple friends who got me tickets there. It was quite the night!

I don't think Coldplay played an additional song because they couldn't do another sketch. Amy wasn't in dress rehearsal either and they had 3 additional skits in dress that still didn't make it to air. I just think Coldplay is such a huge band that they wanted to showcase them. Who knows?

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

A Bronx Talk skit was scrapped, which was to feature Maya Rudolph, as far as I know. So that might have been the reason behind the third song. The fourth (of which we saw about four seconds on TV), was probably something they planned to do, but all the timing was off because they were scrambling yesterday to rework the show.

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

I thought Jon Hamm was the best host this season. He was funny, did impressions, made fun of himself, and KNEW HIS LINES!!!!

And, of course , was smokin' hot the whole way through!

I loved the Pat Finger skit. Hysterical.

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

I thought the Vincent Price sketch was funny too, but not enough people knew the references. Even a great sketch won't get any laughs if it's about Marie Dressler.

And why is it that Coldplay is the only band where the lead singer is the worst looking of the group?

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

Jon Hamm was great. May his appearance bring some more viewers to Mad Men. They should definitely bring him back to host again.

I STILL don't understand Fred Armisen's Obama. I get that there's not much outwardly to spoof with Obama, but is the man incapable of even attempting to lower his voice?

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

I don't mind Armisen's Obama. He manages to get the rhythm of his speech pattern down. I look at it as a character, not an impersonation, much like Poehler's Clinton

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

Fair enough, but I always felt like Poehler's Clinton had something behind it. Armisen seems to be letting the ears do all the work. :)

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

Armisen's Obama has just about as much behind it as he can dig up. Even Bill Mahr was lamenting the fact that Obama really is hard to make fun of, he is just too normal and bland.
Perhaps the ears are the only thing right now to mock.

Poehler's Clinton has a strong determination and drive behind her, almost to the point of desperation (much like the woman she is parodying). This can be heightened just enough to make it comedic. I think Armisten has to heighten Barack's blandness if that is possible. Heightened Blandness? Is that like more of nothing?

re: Jon Hamm on SNL

Who was the hot guitar player singing backup/harmony during the Coldplay performances? Show him more!

I noticed him and suddenly took an interest in the band and then it was ruined when the camera panned back to Chris Martin taking a dump while trying to sing.
