re: Juniors Class of 2008#25
Posted: 6/4/07 at 2:51pmI have 13 more days! Then, I start preparing, auditioning, and taking dance/audition prep/voice lessons like a madwoman! I'm freaking out. I'm putting myself through college, so I have this summer and next year to come up with the money, and then woohoo! I'm off!

I'm actually really excited about being a Senior. I'm SO glad Junior year is over, it was a lot of work.
I'm still unsure about college, but I'm really looking into Marymount Manhattan for Biology.

Posted: 6/5/07 at 9:20pmI have a few songs picked out. I'm a baritone so for me it's extremely hard to find up-tempo I actually like! I'm goint to start working on monolouges right at the start of the school year, and I already take voice during the summer so i'll be fine there. I just don't want to start practicing too early, because then your so sick and tired of what your songs.

"do u have to audition for colleges before ur senior year or can u wait till after? i dont want to go to college till the fall of 09 but i graduate spring of 08"
You want to apply to colleges THIS year. Go through all the steps. Get into the schools you get i to. Settle on one. Let them know you are going to their school. And THEN defer enrollment for one year.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

I will miss this year's seniors at my school. There goes almost all of the talent in our music department/ theatre program...
Would it be possible for me to double major in theatre or musical theatre and something my parents would call sensible like actuarial science(ewww)?
re: Juniors Class of 2008#32
Posted: 6/7/07 at 4:20pmIt really depends! If your going into a conservatory like CCM then no. Some schools might let you...but you would probably go insane. The amount of work you have to do as a musical theater major is CRAZY, and you barely have time for anything else.

Oh man, we're pretty much Seniors now guys! Scary and exciting all at once. My biggest fear is not being able to PAY for college. I'm so scared I won't get enough money to be able to go out of state (which I REALLY REALLY want to do).
This summer, between rehearsals and summer school PE (ew), I plan to spend my free time writing scholarship essays galore. Then I'm off to ITF and after that Malibu!! Ahhh....good summer. What is everyone else doing with their summers???

I am thinking about mixing up my auditions a bit and auditioning for Musical Theatre at certain schools, and Acting for others.
UPDATION TIME for List!
Ultra-selective schools:
Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama ACTING
Uinversity of Michigan MUSICAL THEATRE OR ACTING
Boston Conservatory MUSICAL THEATRE
Ithaca MUSICAL THEATRE
Syracuse University ACTING OR MUSICAL THEATRE
Not as selective (please tell me if any of these are)
Boston University (I think this one might be) ACTING
Emerson College MUSICAL THEATRE
University of Arizona, Tempe MUSICAL THEATRE

Posted: 6/28/07 at 11:44pmYeah, for all the schools I'm auditioning for I'm going to do both musical theatre and acting if possible.

Posted: 6/28/07 at 11:47pmSyracuse and Ithaca are both very selective for Musical Theater!

I'm beginning to prepare for my auditions (ie reading plays, experimenting with monologues, etc.) this summer before I become too swamped.
And I also have a question. Typically, what is the difference between admissions to acting and musical theatre programs? I was considering going out for musical theatre, but I've heard those programs are more selective. Also, I don't want to get stuck in a musical theatre program that doesn't focus on straight acting, directing, and tech as well. Conversely, I don't want to get stuck in an acting program where I won't also learn dance & singing as well. My biggest problem, it seems, is I want to study everything.
Does anyone have any advice? And does anyone know of any programs that fit this description?

No..but I'm an American applying to a Scottish School :)
Fab: I totally know what you mean, which is why I am applying to acting schools. I want to be an actor who sings rather than a manufactured performer...y'know what I mean?
Auditioning for acting programs usually has the following: 2 monologues (usually contrasting in style/time period). Some schools also require you to sing (ala RSAMD in Glasgow). This is because that although the program's main focus is straight acting, they also work on voice and dance (but not to the extreme) to keep you well rounded.

Ok so my college list has been updated again for the tenth time lol.
CCM
Syracuse
...more to come soon I suspect. I'm just having a hard time finding programs that I actually like! Excluding CCM and Syracuse

Posted: 6/30/07 at 1:28pmMarymount Manhattan College! Your an acting major there I believe but you can take a musical theater minor. You don't start taking private voice until your sophmore year I think. They train you to become actors first...but they still give you all the dance and vocal training you need.
