I saw the movie earlier tonight. I thought it was good although I agree that it was predictable. I loved Jennifer Hudson and only wish she had more screen time. I did notice Daphne right away. Overall, if you loved the series, you'll love the movie.

Lisa Kron also appears. She is the diner waitress close to the end of the movie.

I'm going to be shot for this one, but --
I thought SJP delivered a beautiful performance and hope she won't be forgotten when award season comes around. The same goes for the stunning Cynthia Nixon.
I thought the film was sheer perfection - and I never missed a single episode!
I think SJP gave a great performance as well (as well as many of the leads) but feel as though the Academy will most likely overlook their merits as they each had their respective chance to win awards for their portrayals of these characters via the Emmy's when it was a TV series.
I wish it weren't the case, but I could just see this being a higly "snubbed" film come Oscar time. Maybe a Golden Globe though!
Don't be ashamed! Their performances were absolutely terrific. But I doubt anything Oscar will happen. Golden Globes--oh I just know SJP will be nominated. They LOVE her.
I enjoyed the movie - but I wonder if I'm the only one who felt that Steve and Smith were a little bit out of character in their parts?
*SPOILERS THROUGHOUT*
I don't see why Smith and Samantha had to break up. I mean, I see WHY but I just don't think it was necessary. Their unconventional sweet relationship made sense to me, and while I understand they wanted to have a character that did not need a man to satisfy her life, it was still sad they had to sacrifice a beautiful (fictional, I know) relationship.
The Steve thing...I don't know, it made for good drama I guess, but it seemed out of character.
I did love the fight between Carrie and Miranda. And Kristin Davis' truly got to use her comedic shops in this film, she was hilarious yet sweet as ever.
Sarah Jessica Parker will not be nominated for an Oscar, but she truly deserves lots of kudos for carrying the film. She is just a star, the camera loves her, and she understands Carrie Bradshaw so well. She is truly magnificent in this movie. I fell a little more in love with her during this movie.
The supporting cast was great. The true gem was Jennifer Hudson, showing that Effie White was not a fluke. Her character was truly underdeveloped but she held on to whatever she could and made a really appealing character almost out of thin air. It was fantastic.
The locations and the costumes by the one and only Pat Fields were brilliant. I assume Fields will get another Oscar nod. This is the PRADA of this summer season.
Steve wasn't acting out of character.
In the parts before and after, he was like his normal self.
During, he looked how he felt:
Like a pile of ****.
**SPOILERS**
I'm a die-hard fan of the show and while I found the movie enjoyable and satisfying, I was left a little cold. That may seem like an oxymoron, but I think what I'm going for is that it seemed, like someone else said, like just another really long and really good episode, but not the final chapter in the Sex and the City story. It was predictable, though I would have liked to see Samantha and Smith stay together as their relationship always seemed very real to me and I actually think that alongside Parker, Kristin Davis was the star of the movie. Not only was she hysterical in several points, she also provided for me, the only tear jerking moment in the movie. The fierce betrayal on her face when she stared at Big and hugged Carrie in the wedding scene was, for me, the best acting in the film.

My best friend saw a midnight showing on Thursday and told me that she could see a mic and boom all throughout the movie.
I saw it last night and actually looked for it and never saw it, so I don't know, perhaps some people are more perceptive.
I personally think the Samantha breakup was upsetting.
Give me a break, who would leave that guy. He was the perfect boyfriend. He is smart. Thoughtful (buying her that ring) and he never did anyting to stray.
If I had a boyfriend like that I would never stray.
Look at him. He is perfect.

Just one question (spoil me).
Doe's Carrie finally show her boobs? That issue has been troubling me throughout the show. I mean, all the others did. For instance in the Navy episode, we got to see 5 boobies, none of them Carrie's.
I'll probably be seeing it next week, after all this fuss has died down, so I'd like to know, if and when.
I saw the film last night and it was enjoyable. Pretty much what I expected from a Sex and the City film. It was basically a mini-season 7 all in one sitting, but it did indeed feel like a proper finale. The one the fans really wanted. Nothing was too out of character to be unbelievable (even Steve, who is flawed just like everyone else). And personally, I always found Samantha's relationship to be be out of character in the first place, so what happened in the movie made more sense in the end than the end of the series did.
As for the fashion...hahahahahaha!! Boy, the 80s are offically back in full force if Sex and the City is still considered a barometer for upcoming American fashion trends. It was everywhere, from the clothes, to the accessories, to the hair, to a full-blown tribute granting us a little SJP nostalgic trip through her early film career. I have a feeling all those kids who have been putting down the 80s because the 70s made an unfortunate comeback will be eating their words soon. I always knew the 80s woul be coming back, but I never thought it was be so blatant.
I saw it early this afternoon and loved it!! I didn't want to read any of the reviews before going in, and so glad I went in with an open mind. What an enjoyable movie.

I saw it tonight. I didn't looooove it, but I enjoyed it a lot. I too thought it felt like a mini-season and it was fun to check in the with girls again.
Something I couldn't help but wonder -
1. I swear I remember an article where David Eichenberg said something about Anne Meara when they showed up on the set. Was she in it and her part was cut?
2. What happened to Stanford's boyfriend Markus? I was surprised there was no mention of him.
3. Why did the preview for the ill-advised remake of The Women actually look funny?
They didn't show a preview of THE WOMEN at my theatre
Phyllis, I wondered the same thing about Stanny's boyfriend. I guess since the film happens five years after the finale, we're just supposed to assume gays don't last? They seem to be hinting at a Stanford/Mario Cantone relationship so I don't know.
I assume a lot of parts were cut. I wouldn't be surprised if Meara had a scene that did not make it into the final cut. After all, the movie was almost two hours and a half.
Did anyone else see any mics/booms? I didn't see any but my best friend says that when she saw it she could see the mics in almost every scene and could not enjoy the movie.
