I have the first two seasons on dvd. I LOVED this when I was kid.
I remember once being told that for whatever reason, I wasn't allowed to watch it one evening (I must have been about 10 or so). I couldn't figure out why my parents wouldn't let me watch this one certain episode. I finally caught it in a rerun later that year and it was the episode where Kate and Allie pretend to be lesbians to get a break on the rent. The whole time I watched I couldn't figure out why I wasn't allowed to see it!

Before I switched, I used to have a total crush on Ari Meyers.

Loved this show!

Yes, never missed the original airings unless life got in the way!
The great thing with human brains is they're fanless, nice and quiet although I'm sure mine whistles a bit sometimes.

My before I switched crush was Allison Smith. I'd already loved her from an ABC Weekend Special called "A Different Twist," where she played Christy Bay, a talented young singer who was shut out of a production of "Oliver!" because she was a girl. Ingenious Christy posed as Chris Baton to get the role, and all sorts of hijinks ensued, including her/him falling for Brian Bloom's eyebrows.
I also had my own lyrics to theme the song at the beginning, which I still sing along when I watch it-
Do do do Katie and Allie
Do do do Kate and Al
Do do do Kate and Allie
Kate and
Al-lie

Some great guest actors showed up: James Rebhorn, Wendie Malick (as the dreaded Claire), Lindsay Wagner, and in a very funny episode Andrea Martin.

I took care of Ari Meyers once, before K & A. Her mother was rehearsing a show that our Drama teacher was directing, and I was assigned to be her baby sitter one afternoon. She was absolutely charming and a lot of fun to be with. Her mother, Taro Meyers, was also a sweetheart.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I love this show and Jane Curtain is one of the most under-rated comedic actors. I see that kid who played the little boy all the time. He's constantly auditioning here. Last I remember, he played Jerri Blank's son in an episode of Strangers With Candy. Whatever happened to the girls?

Freddie Koheler is all over...commercials mostly.
Even though he was a jerk on the show, I loved Paul Hecht as Charles.
Remember Michael Countryman as the retarded guy who was friends with Chip?
I felt bad for Alison, who had to sing "tomorrow" AGAIN in that one eppie, over and over again.

Anyone remember the SNL spoof? Martin Short as Kate (Hepburn) and Billy Crystal as (Muhammed) Ali?
I was fortunate enough to see one of their episodes taped. Not their greatest episode, but a fun experience.
edit: fixed brain fart

I loved the B&W episode where Allie dreamed she was Lucy in I Love Lucy...Jane Curtin did an awesome Lucille Ball.

Jane Curtain was terrific in the replacement cast of the recent Noises Off revival. Surprised she hasn't done anything on Broadway since.

Yes, lildogs...he was on OZ, with a nude scene!
Jane Curtin is always amazing...I remember the I Love Lucy episode, they also did Mary Tyler Moore...Jane as Rhoda, then as Mr. Grant!
I also remember that she was not allowed by her producers to go to one of the Emmy telecasts where she won.

I'd never heard that. Do you know what the reasoning behind it was?

Some sort of scheduling thing, as I recall.

Madbrian, I think you mean Martin Short, not Martin Lawrence.
I doubt Martin Lawrence would do a terribly convincing Kate Hepburn.

Oh, I was hoping for some drama! Maybe because the show taped in NYC and the awards were in LA?
Isn't Kate and Allie one of those shows whose stars were kind of at each other's throats by the end? I thought I remember there being some sort of strife on the set around the time of Susan Saint James's pregnancy.

I think the ladies were tired of the show by the end. I dont know about each other's throats.
Yes, they taped in NYC and were in the middle of shooting. She won two Emmys for the role, but was only able to accept for one. Seriously, it was the 80's, so anything could've happened!
BTW, the Andrea Martin eppie, I think she played a producer for a "manhattan public access" station, was supposed to be a spin-off. It was tailored for Martin's many characterizations, as her character often had to fill in for missing "talent".
At least they didnt add a tiny kid to the cast once Chip started shaving!

Hee. It was definitely Short. The sketch where he played Kate Hepburn's cousin was hilarious.
